When I melt down my WW and make up some alloy, I do it in small 40-50 # batches and clean the pot before starting another batch. Mark each batch and keep it seperate. that way if you have a problem you will have not messed up a lot of lead. When I alloy with tin I do about 25-30 # batches and keek i...

CanadianCowboy, Bill Ferguson (The Antimony Man, and a Certified Metalergist) said in an article in The Fouling Shot (the Cast Bullet butt.) that lead with 3% antimony like most wheel weights are made of will start to melt at 490Deg.F and that Zink will alloy with lead at 604deg.F. Bill said that ve...

The .357 is a very good choice for your first lever. Most of the reasons have allready been given by the guys here. You will have more fun with it if you invest in a simple reloading kit and start rolling your own. Have fun! 8) As for recoil of the .357, I never thought there was any recoil from min...

I have pan lubed the.432 (.44 cal.)RD bullets using SPG.and it fills the lube grooves very well. The lube grooves are small but there are more of them. I have not shot them with any hot loads but Ranch Dog and others say you can push them FASTER than jacket velocitys without leading using Lee tumble...

Ranch Dog molds make SWEET bullets, photos
Finaly got time to try out my new Ranch Dog (Lee) molds today. They cast a sweet looking bullet. Cant wait to get to the range. These were cast of 30:1 alloy with all Virgin metals. Usualy people will use a coin in the photo to gain perspective for scale. How does someone on the other side of the pl...

OI , That could be. He also said that as the melt warms that zink and other unwanted metals ( including your tin I assume) can be skimed off until it reaches alloy temp. He said that pure lead ( what some used metals dealers call pure) can have as many as 20 other metals in them. I have purchased Do...

OI and Tycer, I was just repeating what I read last night in the Fouling Shot and Bill is the CERTIFIED metals man. He did not say that Zink wheel weights would melt at 604F but that Zink will alloy with WW lead at that temp. Could it be that the Zink WW`s are not pure Zink? At any rate if I find a ...

Yes, watch out for zink!! Bill Ferguson (the antimony man) said in the latest Fouling Shot that Zink will alloy with lead at 604 deg.F and that lead with 3% antimony will start to melt at 490F and all antiomny will be in solution by 515F. It is best to smelt your wheel weights at as low a temp as po...

Cherry was often used in less expensive kentucky and Tennessee long rifles . It is seldome anything but straight grained and of poor color until it ages. Also quite brittle and will crack/split easily compared to walnut or maple. I have a Dixie Tenn.Mountain rifle with a Cherry stock. It looks like ...

Dont file it off!! It must be depressed to allow the sear to release the hammer. The spring or interlock must be binding badly. If handy with tools, remove the butt stock and see if you can see what the L is going on. there could be rust or debris holding it from doing it`s job the way it was intende...
