Re: OT- Timothy Oliphant

I really liked "Deadwood". But you are right, the cursing and profanity detracted from the story. While I'm sure people cussed in the old days, I don't believe it was that frequent. Just because HBO can broadcast it due to being an optional purchase TV choice, I think the writers could hav...

Re: Win Model 88 .308 Weak/Slow friing pin ?

My guess is that there is oil, powder, or grease fouling in the trigger assembly. As I remember the M. 88 had kind of a weird trigger assembly anyway because of its location. If you do clean it, use oil sparingly. I only use WD 40 in and on my guns. Of course I lived used to live in a climate that w...

Re: 1895 Winchester in 30 Remington?

The difference between the 30/03 and 30/06 is approximately 1/8" longer (30/03). As airedaleman stated, the neck length was needed to support the original design 220 grain military round. The big round nose bullet was a holdover from the original Krag military round. Further testing between 190...

The 38/40 may actually work a bit better in M. 92 type actions as it has a bit more taper which improves feeding and chambering. It's a bit easier on the shoulder when using thin clothing than the 44/40 too.

The restored iron hulled sailing ship The Star Of India is also a good one to visit. When I was growing up in San Diego in the 40's, the masts had been cut off so that the PBY's and PBM's could land in the bay. All that has been restored and it's a great tour of a 140 year old vessel.
