Tutt I read about the 88s safety issue several years ago on the web... It was mentioned by Mic in a general way in an article of his about the 88 but didn't detail the circumstance as you have. IIRC I mentioned his article to you here a few years back. Last year as I was purging a bunch of gun magaz...

Saw a thing on TV about animal communication years ago...where the family told the story of their little dog's last night... It was old and decrepit but this night it bounded down stairs as if it were a young dog again... It ran around the living room dodging about then jumped up on the wife's lap (...

I could not convince a co-worker that the FMJ ammo that came with the M1 carbine he barrowed for pig hunting was a bad choice ... He argued it was a good choice because he had killed two with one shot using it... Sheese!...through and through on piggy #1 into piggy #2 behind him. Whatta-ya-gonna-do!?

A Bic lighter will give a nice dull glare free soot coating on the sights... Do it someplace where a breeze wont blow the flame around.. The soot rubs off easy... So keep checking it hasn't been accidently rubbed off. Shooting under shade works perfect if the weather doesn't cooperate with overcast....

I agree the STG44 is cool looking and was a revolutionary weapon. But as I've said @ 11.3 lbs is not a handy weapon. Has anyone noticed anywhere that it out weighs the 9.5 lb M1 Garand battle rifle by about 2lbs? Even unloaded!!. From Wikipedia: "Most authorities list the effective combat range...

jd45 Hey Ben, I have an idea why he chose something other than an M-1 Carbine...........cause it's no good as a man stopper. jd45 Where'd you get that idea? @ 100 yds it'll put a hole through a WWII GI helmet and the well known man stopping 45 acp wont... even out of the longer barreled M1A1 Thomps...

Didn't make any sense to me why he would favor a bigger heavier weapon than a handy and more plentiful M1 carbine that has the same effective range and for which he could get all the ammo and mags he would ever want...
