The .38WCF seems to have been fairly popular up here, as I have owned a few of them.

That is an odd one, must be a volunteer pattern? Looks like a short rifle but it has a brass triggerguard. Or is it an artillery carbine?

Just went to the store yesterday, as well. Not much .223 but they had tons of .32WS and .30WCF. Lots of .303 and .30-06. Not much change from last year, really.

Re: wondering about Canada's cartridges of historical note
The .577 Snider was the backbone of the Canadian Militia for decades, we kind of skipped the .577-540 and went right to the .303 in the Mk.1 Lee-Enfield. Lots of Martini-Henry rifles here but they were never general issue. The Sniders missed the Fenian raids but saw service in both Riel Rebellions. ...

I put an old Lyman tang sight on my .38-55, and lined up the tang, barrel, and front sights so I can use the barrel sight out to 100 yards, and the tang sight is lined up for 200. Worked out really well!

When you take pics of your rifles on the floor, you can open the picture in Microsoft Paint, and use the cropping tool to crop nasty toes out of the picture. Very handy. Or you could just have your better half take the picture and avoid the problem to begin with!

Also, aren't mag tubes for the smaller calibers of 92s--.25-20 and .32-20--different from .38-40 and .44-40 - and hence forearms? The smaller cal's wood, t lest on carbines, seems to have more radius to rise up to meet the tube...and IIRC, aftermarket stock makers ask "what caliber?" - fo...

Just figured this might help folks out if they are looking for parts, some of my observations. Mainsprings; 1873, 1886, 1892, 1894, and 1906 I believe take the same spring. You can also use the same spring in a '66 but not a '66 spring in the later rifles. Butt Stocks; 1890, 1892, 1894, 1895, and 19...

QCI, I've always thought the Winchester 1894 with the 26" octagon barrel was a beautiful rifle. I've never been fortunate enough to own one. Maybe someday. It seems that you Canadians got most of the good Winchester rifles and we Americans got the carbines and left overs. Just kidding really, ...

Some pics from our collection, Winchesters were the most common in the early 1900's, at least in part due to the fact that McClellan, Mcfeely, and Prior, the supplier to many of the stores out West, did not carry Marlins. You find VERY few pre-336 Marlins out here. All pics taken on the Queen Charlo...

Re: Pilots: a hop in a mosquito
When it entered service in April 1941, the wood-framed Mosquito was one of the fastest production aircraft in the world, capable of almost 400 mph. Astonishingly, this little fighter-bomber bested the Hawker Hurricane and matched the speed of the Supermarine Spitfire. The fuselage of the Mosquito w...

My favourite .30WCF, a Model 94 from 1927, 26" round barrel and butt trap like on the 1873's. Posed with an old martin trap that I found in the woods. This rifle has been my companion on many adventures, and saved me from a giant spider on one occasion.

It depends. Octagon barrels are harder to find than round barrels. Unmessed with ones are hard to find and worth a lot more than something with sanded stocks. Some Internet sites have urealistically high prices but Merz Antiques is more indicative of true values. Interesting observation re: the oct...
