Re: Added a "Cavalry Carbine" to the H&R 1873 Trapdoor Stable

1) Andrew -- The middle Trapdoor is indeed the Officers Model. B) Sixgun -- I was not at the Limerick auction. I don't do gun auctions, not since 1979. iii) JReed -- Depends on the ambient and ammo temp, but it can do just under 1300 to just over 1300 from the Infantry Model, within +/- 30 to 40 FPS...

Re: Marlin 410

If you want a lever 410 chambered in 3", you need to find a Win 94 in 410. Noah Friend I allways understood the Win9410 was 2 1/2" also!! So did I, until I started paying attention to the 9410s I saw in shops and on show tables. Apparently there were some 9410s in 2.5" and some made ...

. . . This one shoots the 2 1/2" shells. I may be on the look out for one of the new ones. The new-production Marlin 410s are chambered only for 2 1/2" shells. The Marlin 336 action is too short for 3" shells. Also, as a former owner of a new-production Marlin 410, don't waste your t...

Re: Added a "Cavalry Carbine" to the H&R 1873 Trapdoor Stable

I had one of those some years back. The originals had a little trough or groove on top of the receiver ahead of the trapdoor breech block and the H & R lacked that feature. The result was, you could not get the sights down to hit at 100 yards because you could not see the notch that low. I took...

Added a "Cavalry Carbine" to the H&R 1873 Trapdoor Stable

I came across a "Cavalry Model" H&R 1873 Trapdoor carbine this past week and added it to the Officer's Model and Infantry Musket H&R Trapdoors already in the collection: http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/Noah_Zark/img_0494R.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/Noah_Zar...

Don't blame you there, I NEVER, EVER hunt on public land. Wasn't public land. Was a 185 acre lease, with 16 hunters in the lease. Pretty much somebody had to die for another to get a spot. More than 10 acres per hunter, on average. But all the "POSTED" signs in the world won't stop a walk...

Nice rifle. So im curious....what made you give up hunting? My wife sort of grew up on venison and enjoyed it, but over time got tired of it. She would give the frozen meat away, and if we had it, I had to cook it. Got to be a lot of work for nothing to show for it. Then in 1988 while hunting I was...

Agreed. I like the Winchester 95 because the box mag allows the use of spitzer bullets. But that magazine box it right at the balance point of my 30-06 and 30-40 and it plain sucks for one-hand carry.

Other than the 94, I'm not up on Winchester actions. What makes this one 64-ish? At the basic level, the 64 is a rifle with a 94 action with a pistol grip: http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/Noah_Zark/M64800x179.jpg Contrast with the Model 94 Black Shadow: http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn...

You can excavate around them and float them by filling the excavation with water . . . 500 and 1000 gal tanks are fairly small. Just use the backhoe you used to dig them up, to lift them out. $200 worth of yellow nylon or poly slings from Tractor Supply will do the job for rigging to the backhoe bu...
