For your stated needs a 1 in 9 twist should be fine. Should handle 55 and 62 grain bullets just as well as the 7 or 8 twist.

One of the guys hunted with a Ruger 44 MAG revolver shooting hollow tip bullets. He shot his hog 5 times to down it and once to finish the job. He was extremely disgusted with this bad performance. The bullets penetrated very poorly through the thick chest wall. I strongly recommend do not hunt hog...

Mescalero - Lucky you! When the gun mag articles on the Melvin Johnson 5.7mm carbine conversion first came out, I really wanted to have one. Unfortunately, I didn't have the (or any) money for one in those by-gone days. Do you find it fun to shoot, and to what range is it effective?
