Heck, I've seen one two different times where I hunt near Ft. Hood, TX. One of them was a black one, which aren't supposed to exist. There are black jaguars, but there aren't supposed to be any black mountain lions. It is highly unlikely that there are jaguars that far north, although it's possible...

Well any snake bit is nasty and prone to infection (get it looked at ASAP) but I agree with the OP that non-venomous snakes are fantastic vermin predators.

Rattlers get the boot around my house (I've got kids) but other snakes are big friends of ours.

When they did mine they also checked out my stomach from the top as well.
Yep, they did that to me as well. Thank God I was good to go up top. Esophageal cancer is a bad ride I don't want to experience.

Question: I found that chamber iron at Brownell's that Steve mentioned but it's listed for simply ".22". Isn't the .22 Mag slightly larger than a .22 LR? Does anyone know if that tool will work with .22 WMR chambers?

Well, I modified the ejector rod housing in order to get some more stroke (photos below) and now it'll clear the cases out of the cylinder so that'll mostly solve the problem but Steve was absolutely right on - the chambers are all peened a bit from fools dry firing a rim fire pistol. As far as the ejector rod is concerned it doesn't even come all the way back to the base pin due to the cut in the housing stopping short. I like mine quite a bit. They're incredibly smooth shooting given how much power is behind that round.

There is a Yugo rifle, similar in most respects, that's chambered for 8mm Mauser. I'd like one of those as well.

Look at the flow coming out of those engine bells! It's amazing to consider the flow rate that the turbo pumps needed to be able to accomplish in order to feed those engines. I've seen the pumps on display and they're just HUGE.

The CMP Garands going out now are mostly late vintage and in very good shape. Honestly, I just can't see spending $429 on what's turning out to be mostly junk when a good serviceable rifle from the CMP is $600.
