Re: Old Gun Photos - Poor Gun Safety.....

for some reason back then not too many people pulled the trigger while they were pointing a gun in "fun". I guess we have to be safer just to make up for the idiots that our extra safety has protected this far and let live longer than they otherwise would have. :).

Re: Bummed...

problem with pain is its personal. you cant say i beat my pain by doing this and you can too. You really do not know what kind of pain the other person is in. You may think your pain is bad because you have never felt anything worse, but it may not even compare to what the next guy puts up with and ...

Re: Howz the 338 Marlin Express Lever?

there seem to be a lot of complaints related to feeding as well as the alignment of the barrel to the frame. It was enough to turn me off of it.

Maybe the earlier advice to buy only 92 serial numbers is good. I psicked up one at academey that obviously had an alignment problem just the other day.

Re: Factory hunting loads for an 1894 .357

Well, I can't give you a report on how it works for deer as I can't deer hunt with a rifle in Illinois, but the Federal AE 158gr JSP has performed well out of my Marlin. It feeds smoothly and is very accurate. And it has worked well on yotes and groundhogs. This is an excellent loading in my CB. I ...

Re: OT-What turns you off the quickest in Westerns?

My favorite western is the searchers but OMG Monument Valley is sooo far from what that part of texas is really like it almost makes me not want to watch it over and over again. Also way to many W92s. For those of you that don't know that part of texas was pretty lush during the years after the civi...

Re: OT-What turns you off the quickest in Westerns?

There was this joke of a western called texas rangers on the other night. Took place in texas right after the civil war. lots of peacemakers, and 94 winchesters. didn't see a single walker or front end loader.

Re: Colt Disappointment NEW UPDATE

I would be tempted to chuck the sucker up in a vice and load it with some 45 LCs, get around a wall and pull the trigger with a string. :) seriously you really need to stress how their neglegence put you in danger, and only your deligence saved them from a very ugly lawsuit. I own 3 colts, and I gue...

Re: Tang Sights, good, bad, and downright ugly scoop please?

I can't stand the way a scope looks on a lever action and most of teh cartriges do not warrant the use of a scope. For me, even the 'lowly' .44 Magnum does warrant the use of a scope, for two reasons: 1. On my main 'deer' gun, I want to see clearly in dim woods or twilight, and place a shot on a 75...

Re: My gun show dream.........

Every gun owner should support gun shows. Reason Freedom and excersize of your 2nd admendment rights. At least go once in a while. Up until internet gun auctions it was the only way an idividual could sell a used firearm for anywhere near what it was actually worth. When I was a young man they were ...

I can't stand the way a scope looks on a lever action and most of teh cartriges do not warrant the use of a scope. If I had a 308 marlin I would scopce it, but my 357 mag gets a tang, and I tried one on the 45-70 Marlin 1895. Any hit strong enough to bend the tang or dent a reciever sight would at l...

Re: Cougar in the neighborhood...

I have seen several up near the red river east of wichita falls, I have seen bobcats and coyotes out my back door in sunnyvale (Dallas Co.), but luckily no big cats. Cats of any kind arte hell on dogs. A lot of good 40-70# bird dogs have been killed by bob cats so I don't want to run into one. We ar...

Re: What critter is this ?

I believe it is a Red Stag as well, even though I haven't seen many in their summer coat. In TX it is legal anytime. I looked for a red stag hunt this fall it is suprising how many places there are in SE TX that have red stag. My guess is you are close to one of them. I looked at a place West of por...

Re: New guy ammo question

I had to join to respond. I have a little pet peeve. It really bothers me when talking about firearms and someone says the gun will "blow up". It is more often used is regard to reloading but also in regard to tubular magazines. What this boils down to is a risk assesment. Yea you can set ...
