Re: Savage 99... 'T'?
A SN of 1048xxx would fall between 1962 (1037000) and 1963 (1052xxx) The lever boss should have an "N" stamp Should have , being the operative phrase here. It should be about here-- < example image > It is not. In fact, there's nothing there. Unfortunately I can't take it apart to confirm...

According to Murray: .308 First chambered in the Model 99R, 99RS, 99EG, and 99F in 1955. Available in 1985 only in 99C. According to Royal: The Savage 99T was introduced in 1935 and discontinued in 1940... so a .308 Savage could not be a "T" without it being a re-bore. So... PM me a compl...

I'm kind of narrowing this down from the other post since the deal for the 1895 fell through, but I need some of your expertise concerning the Savage 99... Specifically the type T. Temptation of the Levers: The Awakening.
Was in the local toy store and happened across two very tempting purchases. The first was a Savage 99 in .308, integral rotary mag. Round barrel, brown wood that would probably clean up nicely. It wasn't pristine. It had definitely seen time in the field. I'd call it about 70% condition-wise, maybe ...

I seriously doubt it would reliably stop a 22 LR, if the criteria was that " one of the three layers will stop this round ". The only round I might give a chance would be well-made chain mail, but it still has openings, and I wouldn't volunteer to be the test dummy. I have found a few cli...

Re: A Question for the Ages - Medieval Armor.
I know that the green tip ball ammo is not armor piercing. It is what is most commonly used by the U.S. Army, and is a ailable sometimes to civilians. It makes a good reference point because it is available and makes for easily duplicated tests. The question did not seem to be whether or not armor ...

A Question for the Ages - Medieval Armor.
Maybe some of the sages here can put this somewhat heated debate between a friend and myself to rest. My contention is that 5.56 NATO green tip has enough ho...

By what meteric? THIS MATTERS. Assuming penetration being the most important aspect of performance, 9mm will almost always out-penetrate .40 and .45 because that's how physics works.
