Any updates on Mossy 464 from owners?

Post by TravisM »

I know there's been some reviews of them a while back, but I was wondering if any of you have any updates, new thoughts, or experiences with your Mossberg 464.

Have you had any issue with different factory ammo not loading or ejecting properly? (Mainly 150 or 170 grain Remington green box, Winchester white box, or Winchester silver box.)

How's your accuracy held up through the years. Is it still tight or has it gotten loose as the rounds have gone through? (Has the button rifling held up?)

Any problems feeding through the reloading gate?

Anything getting super jammed from dirt, lead, or copper?

Does the trigger move like it does on a Winchester 94 when the hammer is up?

Thanks in advance.

+1
The early production one that old OJ had sure had some issues but I reckon Mossberg should have sorted them out by now.

Hammer thumb offset broke off.
Feeding was never 100%.
No positive grip-tang safety engagement feedback.

Those are my gripes or complaints.

Why would the button rifling not hold up? Button rifling is by far the most common rifling method used in barrels today. Throat erosion begins with the first shot regardless of the type of rifling used, and all bores wear out eventually given enough rounds, but button rifling is no more susceptible to wear than any other type (and perhaps less susceptible to it than some).

Sorry. I should've clarified. I meant with fouling. Any serious fouling problems using cast lead bullets?

Well, I don't own one, never even seen one, have no clue how good or bad they are, but if it makes you feel better here's my comment. :D

I must admit I was expecting more comments here, but in a way I'm also makes me want to get one so I can be that guy who has a review on the article page.

Howdy,
I also had one of the early ones... Had problems.. Went back to factory twice..
They finally sent me a brand new one....
I sold it without firing it... (For 1/2 price with a caution about my experience)
Haven't heard any feedback, perhaps it's doing fine...
Also, perhaps they've got 'em 100% by now..

Unless later reports are better, there is other stuff to get.. Used Marlins are
$300 - $350 or so around here...

YMMV,

Thanks for telling us your experiences. I know Williamranks has posted the work he's done that his Davidson's brush gun on my other post, (thank you) but I'd surely appreciate some more input by other owners,
