Put me down as a fan of the Browning versions. I have 2 1886's, a SRC and a Rifle. I also have a Browning model 71. All 3 are slick, accurate, well made and downright gorgeous. They are all High Grade with some of the nicest figured walnut you have ever seen and the fit is outstanding. Also, no lawy...

OJ, That is pretty cool. The Monohans are great people. When I go out, I stay at one of the old ranch houses over near Hyannis. The last branding I went to was 2 years ago and at that time they were running closer to 11,000 head. Talk about a busy place. You are absolutely correct about the branding...

This August I'll celebrate my 85th anniversary of my arrival on this planet - and, I was nearly 16 when my folks moved from the cattle ranching Sandhills of Nebraska to the city (Denver) and I found out there were other ways to make a living besides being a cowboy. Ahhh, after 20 or 25 years, I really think each person knows the other ain't going no where and the trust comes in to stay. If I am doing the math right, the accuracy of that thing is 2.4 MOA. That is probably accurate enough, but a Sharps 50 would likely do better.

That is the same position I use. I also can shoot from my horse and have on two occasions been lucky and taken coyotes with a 45 Colt while mounted. In both cases we rode up and caught them napping so to speak. I have not tried shooting a rifle while mounted, but I am sure my horse would be fine.

I have also had the same problem with the gummy tips causing hangups in the magazine of my 1886 Browning. I noticed it more during 90 to 100 degree days in Texas. However it was often enough to make me consider them to be unreliable for feeding.

Re: Does Lasik eye surgery improve shooting with iron sights?
Nope, it will not only not improve your iron sight use, it may hurt it. Sometimes the correction of distance eyesight with lasiks will increase the need for reading glasses. Therefore your vision for iron sights will be a little more blurred. Not always but something to discuss with your eye surgeon.

The 35 calibers seem to be more effective than tables, charts and logic would expect. Cartridges like the 35 Remington, 348 Winchester, 358 Winchester and 35 Whelen. Have a dedicated following that could only come from experience and performance.

Modern springs get weak from use. It is called work hardening. A compressed spring is not in use. It is the act of compressing and releasing that wears them out. Just my comments, others mileage may vary.
