Reloading .35 REM
Found some old Hornady .358 Round Nose 250 grain bullets on the shelf today. Since I own two .35's (a Marlin 336 & a JC Higgins 45) does anyone have a good load for this heavy of a bullet? I have been using H335 and Varget for my 180 and 200 grain loads. I would appreciate any suggestions. JR5

Re: Reloading .35 REM
I have not seen any loads published for 250 grain bullets for the 35 Rem. Further, the nose on those is quite long IIRC and they won't feed properly unless they are deep seated which reduces available powder space.
The heaviest that I've seen listed is 220 grains (as in Speer 220 grain fn's).
I don't think it's really feasible with those bullets.

Re: Reloading .35 REM
The Lee manual has about 5 loads for a 250 grain lead bullet going about 1500 fps.

Thanks O.S.O.K.! I figured there was a reason these bullets were not feasible for the 336 --- I was just curious what that reason might be. Thanks Again, JR5
Re: Reloading .35 REM
I've tried the 250s and 220s but think the 200s are about optimum for the cartridge. There's usually a reason a certain load became "standard". Relearning the lessons of the past is not usually cost effective! Don't ask me how I know.

Re: Reloading .35 REM
The best "heavy" bullet for the .35 Rem. is the Speer 220gr semi flat point Hot Core design. In a modern, post 1975, Marlin 336 this bullet can be safely driven 2200fps adjusted to the muzzle. I know you asked about a 250gr bullet but I would think that most 250gr .358 bullets are designed for larger capacity cases. The Speer 220gr bullet should make the .35 Rem. a real giant killer within it's range limitations. Again only in a post 1975 Marlin. The comments on the post 75 Marlin come directly from Mic.
