OT- Halloween results..

Post by morgan in nm »

Another Halloween gone by and not one tricker-treater. Every year for the last 10 years, I buy the best chocolate candy that I can afford and get almost nobody. I have had only two kids show up at my door in the last 10 years and that was because I had to pay them cash as they were students of mine and my folks wanted to see at least one costume. I know that living in the country has a lot to do with it but I do live right near the highway and there is 100s of people that go from the small communities to the larger ones for halloween and they travel right by my house. Either I am going to have to put up a neon sign or just give up.

Just go into town and set up a stand. :)

We live in town now and got a whopping 20 or so. There are certain areas of town that get hit really hard - where all of the kids from the country go but our section of town is very quiet.

We live in a fairly large subdivision. We took our six year old around this evening and I bet only one out of twenty homes had the porch light on for trick or treaters. I wonder if more people are just tired of it all.

Only 5 kids in one group tonight. Last year I had maybe a hundred. I think it was because tonight is HS football night.

I've had two kids come by in the last 27 years. That was by appointment when the lady next door wanted to be able to take her grandkids out. Maybe it's because I live 900 feet off the hard road? We don't even buy candy any more.

We've never had any kids (trick-or-treaters) at our house and because we live so far out in the boonies don't expect any BUT I still buy a few bags of various candies every year. He he, guess who'll be eating all that candy?

The city I live in has a Halloween Block Party. There was approxiamtely 3000 people in the streets last night, from toddlers to grandparents some in costumes some not. One of the founders of our city left in his will, a trust to fund free ice cream on Halloween night. The money ran out a generation or so ago, but the local Kawinis has taken over and kept the tradition going.

My neighborhood is a little outside of town and we get just a few at the house. I put a bowl of 21 Hershey's out and there were 18 when I returned. I cant say I mind much.

Nary one kid in here 32 years..Plenty of houses around, close to the road and porch light on for at least the first 10 years.. Prolly cause there are no sidewalks around here..I think people ferry their kids to other places for to get a better score.. But since my wife is 4'11"... She gets a costume up and trick or treats unsuspecting friends of ours as bratty older kid.. After they dole out the goodies.... She knocks on the door again and shocks them by saying they don't give enough..what cheapskates they are..and asks for better candy ... after a couple of min go by she reveals the "Trick"

In 22 years in this house nary a child has come to the door. We now are sure to turn out every light and sit in back eating treats. However, somebody stole my McCain/Palin sign...

In 6 square miles around my place, there are only about 3 residences. Kids would starve going from place to place. Slim pickins around here.

We had five kids come. The most we have had in 20 years! :D

I saw on the news that there was a lady in Portland Or. that was asking the kids what candidate they were for and refusing candy to the kids who answering Democrat. Had some kids crying and the parents mad!! :o

Unusual custom this Halloween. We go out and buy a bunch of candy. We give out a bunch of candy - usually all of it. The kids end up bringing home more candy than we started with!

No kids this year or for the past 20 or more years.
There are few houses, no sidewalks or streetlights a couple miles out of town.
The folks around here take the kids into town where the pickin's are better.
I still buy some candy and leave the light on, just in case.
I still fondly remember home-made cookies, popcorn balls and candy apples when I was a kid 50 years ago.
Too bad, the way things have changed in modern times.
I'll still be here next year, with another bag of candy and the light on.

We had some real cute kids come by - but far fewer than previous years.

I think lots of people are doing parties and such this year so not many people were home in my neighborhood.

Our subdivision gets swamped with kids. It is small, about 40 houses. I get a campfire going in the drive and hand out candy. Bought enough for 350 kids, ran out, got more and used half. Figure about 450 showed up. Not bad for a town with about 500 people. I think the word has spread so we get them from all over.

My parent's neighborhood was swamped.

I live in a swamp, so our neighborhood got nobody... even though there have to be 8 kids in out townhome complex and have a Section 8 project just across the fence.

Our town puts on a huge event at the zoo however. there were over 3500 children from the surrounding area wantering the zoo trails and getting their candy from businesses/service clubs passing out candy.
