Bullets prices are indeed increasing, and a box of 50 Barnes FN 255 grs for the .375Win has reached the 80$ limit for a box of 50 at this side of the Pool. But Hornady FN 220 grs cost 70$ for a 100 box.
What is your opinion and your experience - are the Hornadies good and heavy enough for elk, hog and moose, or should I take the high cost of the Barnes bullets?

Re: .375W bullets
The Hornady's a pretty good bullet, but I think I'd rather have the extra weight of the Barnes for those bigger animals.

I take it you can't cast. That's what I'd do if I was worried about bullets holding together. Those Hornady 220s are made for .375 Win velocities. The Barnes is the same bullet as the .38-55 with the cannelure in a different place... The Hornady bullets will do fine on the game mentioned with proper placement.

I was planning on playing with loading my .375 down to .38-55 levels. Even though the Hornady manual lists loads for this bullet in the .38-55, have you heard of or experienced expansion problems at .38-55 speeds?

Re: .375W bullets
Well, to each is own. If I were loading the .375 Win down to 1100-1300 fps I'd simply use the Lyman 375249 (a plain base cast bullet) over about 18 gr. IMR or H 4227. I see no reason to use jacketed bullets at those velocities. As you might remember, I load MY .38-55 across the full range and use jacketed bullets only for the 2000 fps type loads.RSY wrote:Hobie,Hobie wrote:IThose Hornady 220s are made for .375 Win velocities.

I was thinking of going with the top-level Hornady loads...I think they're around 1,800 fps.

Casting is a good idea, but weather has been bad at my free days the last month. However, I have lead and a lot of old tin plates to mix to an useable alloy. The mold is from Lee. Hopely, it will not rain or be windy at wednesday afternoon.
And I'll order a box of Hornadies, too.

Re: .375W bullets
I have used the hornady on deer excellent bullet.in my BB 94 RL-7 is the powder and I have tried most of them.
375 bullets have always been expensive compaired to other bullets.
the lyman 264 gr gc (375449) is another good mold.in my rifle the sweet spot run 1600-1700 fps.
even with the price of gas check going up it is "alot" cheaper than buying jacketed bullets .
lyman 375449 sized .377
