Anyone ever seen an Uberti SAA in .22LR?

Post by marlinman93 »

I saw a used Uberti at my local gun shop today, and to my surprise it was in .22 Long Rifle. I can't find any info on them, and wondered if anyone had seen one before? It was cased, but had the brass triggerguard/backstrap.-Vall

I saw one at a gun show a couple years back. Of course, this was after I had spent my play money for the day too. Seemed like a solid little gun.

Uberti has made a small-frame .22 single action for at least 20 years. About that long ago I had one, and it was a tight, accurate little gun. The only thing I didn't like is that the trigger guard was down-scaled along with the rest of the gun, and my sausage-like trigger finger had a hard time getting comfortable. I sold that one, but the thought of picking up another has crossed my mind lately.

I couldn't find them on Uberti's web site, so I'm uncertain if they still build them. Shop wants $299, and told me they would knock $20 off that if I wanted it. Looks like new.

I bought one about ten, twelve years ago for the Ex- Mrs. Traded it off about the same time I traded her off. and have been kickn' myself ever since ( about the .22 of course  ). I think back then I paid 165.00 for it but got around two when i traded it. Don't even remember what for.

Slick little sixgun and a blast to shoot.

The last ones I saw were back in Arizona. They called them Stallions I think. At the time I had a Colt New Frontier .22 Convertible and they were almost identical in size. Those I looked at had full sized grip frames that made them look a bit odd. But they were decent feeling little guns. I've not seen one in years though.

For $279.00 ..... I'd buy it. It would make a great stable mate to IJ.

Yep, they're called the stallion model now. I was going to get one, but after comparing it to the colt peacemaker 22, I got the colt. The Stallion wasn't bad though, I just didn't care for the trigger compared to the colt.

I have reservations about a .22 revolver with that many rounds. Timing has occasionally been an issue with some of the older 9 shot revolvers, due to the smaller movements of the cylinder and lockup notches. I wonder if one tries to do 12 chambers if it could exaggerate these types of timing issues?

I'd be a little more concerned that it would be considered a "Hi-Capacity" hand gun by the new administration....

I had SAA clone but I don't think it was a Uberti. It came with a 22 mag cylinder also. It was a well made gun. The only problem was that the barrel diameter was the same as my 45 SAA. Needless to say it wasn't very balanced at all, too front heavy. I traded it off for a ruger SS in 32 mag which has much better balance.

they made the small frame guns, exactly the size of the ruger single six i beleive, but they also made a fullsize SAA frame gun [so did colt back in the 1800's, at least they made a few] and that full size gun is quite impressive, a chunk, but accurate and easy to point
i have one of the full size guns with a 22 mag cylinder, and may have the 22 lr cylinder for it as well.
may sell it next year as i am still thinning the herd. rare gun and it looks brand new.

saw a new one at sportsman's yesterday. looked and felt OK. they also had saa in .38 that had a 4" barrel that was pretty. no rugers avail for a direct comparison. I guess it's just me but I'd prefer colt or ruger to the uberti, but that's provincialism on my part I think...

my dog's vet keeps consuming my gun budget, maybe that's why they're called 'gun-dogs', eh?
