OT. Vanishing posts.

Post by flatnose »

Just made a discovery.
When I try to upload replies or new posts, they sometimes vanish into thin air. Most annoying.
I use windows Vista and MSIE. If I type a reply in the topic box, then visit another site, then return to complete or post my reply , the reply post vanishes when I click the submit button. That is, it will not post to the board.
Anyone else aware of this?

Are you saying the contents of the edit box disappears when you hit submit after having brought focus back to the window you were away from for a while, or that the text is still there but doesn't get properly posted?

I've noticed over the last couple of weeks my replies have disappeared. I just thought I was going to fast and didn't hit the submit button.

kimwcook,
Thats what I initially thought, although I think my 5 words per min is not overly excessive.
I just tried it again. When I returned to the reply box, all previous text vanished this time.
Before I submit a post, I now try and make a habit of copying it. right click on mouse and select all and copy.

Hmmmm...,
I was using XP until about 6 months ago without a problem. Maybe the problem lies with the version of Internet Explorer.

I have replied to several posts only to find out that when I hit "submit" it suddenly says that I am not logged in, when I was, maybe multiple times. When that happens, the post vanishes. I got so POed that I started writing my replies in Word and copy and pasting to the post. If it screws me up again, I still have what I wrote to try again.

Yes. I've had several posts vanish. At first I thought I'd done something wrong, but apparently not. Don't know what is happening. I believe the coming changes will eliminate that problem.

PS - This has happened on Vista and non-Vista machines, even a MAC. It has happened with Safari, IE and FireFox. I do believe it is a forum server/DB problem.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Sometimes, when you hit the "Submit" button, your post may not post and you will still see the message box that you typed your post in. This is most likely caused by someone submitting a post at the same instant that you hit the "Submit" button or by some technical adjustment being made in the server. If this happens, wait a couple of seconds and hit the "Submit" button again.

Me too also. Windows XP. And, after they post sometimes when I back arrow to the the forum I get a "warning-page expired" notice. I then have to go back to my favorites list and start over.

I have also had several long winded posts disappear into nowhere, despite getting the "successful post" message. When that happens I don't try again, just let it go. :)

I think that may be related to your operating system. Happens to me from time to time due to loss of connection. I'm on a mobile connection (Sprint), but get a screen in my browser that sez " check your connection."

If you're using separate tabs or windows to switch betwen sites you won't lose the text as you move between tabs or windows in the origial window or tab... at least in XP & IE7 you don't.

I too have windows XP and have been doing the same things , for about two or three weeks. Has happened in the past , but not so often. I just went through 4 pages looking for a post I made two days ago and it's not there. That happens often also
Seems with so many of us going through this , Must be something else. This has not happened to me on any of the other forums.
