Picture test - it works now.....
If it all works like it should, there should be a picture of a Ruger Old Army below. I don't have time to trouble shoot right now as I'm on my way out the door - but you should be able to upload pics to the server directly for sharing here instead of going through PhotoBucket.
Use wisely. Please trim pics to 800 X 600 pixels prior to uploading. This makes it easier for folks to view them.

Uhhh yeah, glad I know what a Ruger Old Army looks like
It is a PITA to use photo bucket. When this feature gets up and running it will be a lot easier to use. Handloads.com has their own upload feature and as long as you don't go nuts with the pics it's wonderful.

What do you need to get permission? Am I missing something? Sure would hate to miss out on pictures posted on this forum. They are one of my favorite parts.

You're right, Joe. It ain't there. Unless I'm logged in as administrator. I'll have to look at it later. Too bushed tonight. I'm off to bed. I didn't get the comments about the Old Army until I logged in on a user only account. The pic shows up fine as Admin...
OK. We'll work on it - but not tonight. Or at least I won't . Don't know if Hobie or David want to take a hand in the game and see what it'll take to activate pic posting...

Re: Picture test - let's see if this works now...
OK guys. I THINK I have it now. Please check and see if you can see the pic of the Old Army above. Also, please check and see if you can upload pics. File size is limited to 256 kilobytes and image size is limited to 800 X 800 (that should work fine for the typical 800 X 600 or 600 X 800 size). These size constraints are to make this feature easier for our folks on dial up access. It'll still take time to download a few pics, but much less than if they were all 2 and 3 megabyte pics. Anyway, let's see if it works NOW...

Okeydokey, guys. If you want to share a picture with the forum, it's pretty straight forward. Make sure you've saved it in a reasonable file size. 256 Kilobytes is the limit in order to facilitate the loading of messages for those who are not blessed with a broadband connection. You can still host larger pics elsewhere, but for the sake of consideration for others we're limiting it here to 256 K. So, at the bottom of the window when you're replying to a message or when starting a new topic you'll find two tabs that say "Options" and "upload attachment". If you're using the older style of format then just keep scrolling down in the window until you see where it says "upload attachment". Click on "Browse" and then locate the picture file on your computer. Click on "Add the file" and wait for it to upload. Add a bit of a comment if you like in the box provided. It's pretty straightforward. Even I could figure it out.

Yep. Guests are welcome, but they don't have the same privileges as family members. And since the computer is too dumb to differentiate between guests and family without help you've gotta wear the name tag so it'll recognize you. For general reading one doesn't need to log in, but to view pics hosted on the server and to post replies and topics, etc one does need to.Kansas Ed wrote:FYI, only members can view the pic above. What is the difference between the older sytle format and the newer style. I didn't know we had any choice? And I didn't see the "upload attachment" at first but I found it.
Let's try it to see if it works: Hey, it looks like it works. WoW!!!!

I have a freebie (came with computer or cameral) called PhotoImpression that you can edit (crop or 'resize' - the latter is what keeps the whole view but drops pixel count/resolution). I think lots of other freebie software is out there to do it.Old Time Hunter wrote:How do you save them in a reasonable file size? That is an art that has eluded me.

I've been using a shareware program called Image Optimizer from http://www.xat.com for years. Most cameras and printers and ??? now come with at least rudimentary image editing software that should allow you to do so. There's so many options out there that one needs to know what a person's software is in order to give suggestions. I'll try and remember to look around and see what freeware can be downloaded to do this with. Need to find that elusive "Round Tuit" first though... to many irons in the fire already this afternoon.

Re: Picture test - it works now.....
I'll get around to it later this week, Nath. Right now I'm barely monitoring responses with little time for reply or other stuff. There's programs around for manipulating images. A good one you can google up and download for free is The Gimp - but you can do much more than change file sizes and such with it and it may be too complex for a lot of folks. I'll look for simple image resizers later on and will update the "Post Pictures" section of the stickies with the info as well as providing it as part of this topic. All it takes is time... Oh, and don't forget to save images with a new name when you change them. You don't want to lose the original since any changes will lessen the original's quality in one way or another.Nath wrote:Many thanks for this service

Re: Picture test - it works now.....
Okeydokey,
Here's a program you can download and use. It resizes and a lot more as well. I took a 3072 X 2304 3 megabyte picture down to a 800 X 600 158 kilobyte picture. And it's a free download as well. I don't have time to do a step by step "Here's how to use it" - but did take time to find it and post the link. It shows a lot of promise. Zone Alarm Antivirus found nothing wrong with it. Nor has the firewall hollered about spyware, trojans or anything else. Still, since I've not done much with it so far I still must say "Caveat Downloader" just like with any thing else you get off the 'net. It shows promise and if you enjoy poking around a new program I'd suggest you giving it a look. It was pretty straightforward and even though I took the precaution of using it on a copy of the original it didn't overwrite the file I used it on, it created a new one entitled "mini".... OK. I'm back to work on things of greater import. Have fun!

Paul, can we also post other types of files, such as *.pdf's or texts?
What about soundfiles?
I'm asking because it says attachments, not just pics.

Paul, can we also post other types of files, such as *.pdf's or texts?
What about soundfiles?
I'm asking because it says attachments, not just pics.
I believe you can - but it has to fit within the space requirements.

Re: Picture test - it works now.....
Worked for me in a test on the other thread.
Pics can apparently be no bigger than 800x800 and 256
KiB Looks like the code has to be created in the attachment window - moving the attachment line in there by itself won't work. So each post must go to the file source - can't move a picture from one post to another through the clipboard.
