Man killed while trying to rob car wash customer identified
Susan Jacobson | Sentinel Staff Writer
10:17 PM EST, January 21, 2009
The man killed earlier this month while apparently trying to rob a customer at an Orange County car wash was identifed today as Jonathan Washington, 21.

Investigators said they think Washington was involved in several other robberies in the county. The Jan. 9 robbery attempt at the car wash at 5101 S. Orange Blossom Trail was similar to five other robberies within a mile of the area, they said. Washington was charged in 2006 with carrying a concealed weapon. He was acquitted.

Washington was shot by a man who told deputies that two men approached him, one with a shotgun, and tried to rob him. The victim, who has a concealed-weapons permit, pulled out a handgun and shot Washington, authorities said. The other suspect ran away.

Two witnesses corroborated the victim's story, and detectives are considering the shooting a case of self-defense.

I hate that for the guy who had to protect himself.

He'll lose sleep, his gun (for a while at least), and probably $10-20k to defend himself from the civil suit.

Oh wait, that's Florida, not NC. No civil suit.

Hopefully he'll get the gun back sooner than later.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Hope the guy doesn't loose too much sleep over it.

Wonder what happened to the accomplice? Maybe he'll think twice about robbing someone again.

I'm gladdened by a story like this, the man underwent licensing and training and had qualified to be legal in carrying, It's nice to hear that all that paid off in his survival. But, as mentioned, he will suffer a lot of legal matters for awhile that's for sure. I bet his wife and kids believe in the right to carry about now.

Now all he has to do is get through the civil suit. Doesn't matter if yu are right, the relative will likely sue. Sucks, there should be a law against that.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop; you know, the family account of how this young man was in the process of turning his life around and was about to enter the ministry and now his life was cut short by a gun totting thug and blah blah blah...

There is a law preventing that here in Missouri. It was passed as part of our Castle Doctrine a couple years ago, if I'm not mistaken.

I love stories with a happy ending! :D

Any decent person is going to lose some sleep over having to take another's life, no matter how warranted such an action was. What he needs to remember is that he probably just saved someone else's life - or many others - from this scumbag who would probably have escalated his activities into more and more violence. He'll never know - at least in this life - just how good a deed he did!
