Puma 92 Problems

Post by kyonic »

Hello again I trying to find out some info on the take down and putting back together my Puma 92. I found a web page "the only one I could find" that had info on taking down a 92. The problem is when I put the gun bak together I put the bold assembly together and then lever and lined the hole up and replaced the pin. Here is where I think I messed up. On the pin it has a knurled end and a pointed end. I did not remember which way it went back in so I stuck the pointed end in first and I belive this is the right way.
What happened is after putting the pin back in and replacing the pin screw I then got the rest of the gun back together. I tried cycling the action and it was really sticky and then just locked up altogether on me. I knew that it had to be the pin placement. I tapped the pin a few times until I got it where the action would work again. The only thing now is that the pin stop screw is loose because if I tighten it much the action is sticky again.
Okay so I guess what I am trying to ask is did I do anything wrong? Did I put the pin back in right? How about the pin placement?
Well I hope you can understand this and offer any valuable info.
Thanks

The trick to putting a 92 together is to place a fired case in the front of the bolt so that it is held by the extractor. This will hold the ejector spring compressed. This will then let you slide the bolt into the chamber and install the lever. Steve Young AKA Nate Kiowa Jones sells a CD on his site that gives you the step by step. He is the 92 Guru and If you are going to own and take apart your 92 then his CD will be something you need to own. Look for stevesgunz.com

About the only thing I can think of if the extractor and ejector are working properly, your bolt pin stop screw is catching on the bolt. If backing it off tight solves the hiccup, then I'd "Lock-tite" it in place. Good pics and descriptions can be found at: Marauder's Rifle Tune-ups or Steve's DVD from Steve's Guns.

I bet the lever to bolt pin is dragging. The tapered end goes in first and the knurled in grabs once it's seated. but sometime you will over drift it and it protrudes enough to drag. Open the action and use a rubber mallet to give the bolt a couple raps on the sides. This will level/ flush the pin a bit.

The next problem is the plug screw,. Here lately Rossi has been drilling the frame too deep for that plug. If you run it in all the way it contacts the bolt. What I have been doing is cutting a single coil from a spring about the right Dia. to make a lock washer out of it. This is usually enough to space it out but still get it tight.
