Grizzly Defender

Post by Tennessee Hayre »

A little extra backup for my 45-70. This is a new revolver to add to the pile. Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag. Who knows one day we may have Grizzly down in our neck of the woods.Image

You bet ya. I have a 629-4 SW, but this on can handle the really heavy stuff. I like both.

Is that a 4 5/8" barrel? It's hard to tell by the pic, at least by me.

I like them SS wheel guns. Love those grips too.

That's nice. I handled the SuperBlackhawk, but it felt "big" in my hand. I ended up with a SS Blackhawk in .45 colt. While I've never been to grizzly country (and it's the state animal and on the state flag here), should I ever go, the Blackhawk with some of Grizzley 335 +P's should be as good as it gets. What type of ammo where you planning for your anti-grizzly work?

Sorry guys, so late getting back to the post. Yes it is a 4 5/8 inc barrel and will take buffalo bores serious stuff. On my next range day I am going to try out some of Randy Garretts 310 grain Hammer Heads on a 10" oak tree and maybe get a box of 340 grainers from Buffalo bore as well. I'm excited. :D

I felt the power in my hand when I held it for the first time. It was then that I was no longer a boy, but now a man mean't to rule the outback.

Are they stag, or "stag-lite". They look like the one's Ajax Grips do. If so, you can get them from Midway USA as well.

How do they feel?

Nice SBH, looks alot like mine, I chopped it back before Ruger made them with 4 5/8 barrels it started life as a 7.5"
All I have ever shot in it is the old standard 240 gr, JSP and a full dose of H110. I'll bet those Hammer heads will make you think twice. Range report please :D

I have both the Garrett Defenders (1020 fps) and Hammerheads (1325 fps), and there is a considerable difference between the two out of my Gary Reeder Blackhawk. The Hammerheads are a good thumper, while the Defenders are about standard (compared with factory ammo). Both are very accurate.
