Lever Squirrel guns, what have you got?
For me they're Marlins, 39A(1974) and 39A Mountie(1968):

Re: Lever Squirrel guns, what have you got?
mine is a Marlin 1897, about 100 years old with beach front sight, rear tang. Full length octagon barrel and pure heaven to shoot and hunt with. I gave up my Marlin 39 TDS, and my Stevens single shot on the road to this beauty. I have been working on taking some group shots of the kids and will post pics too. I carry a Walther PP in .22lr as its companion.

...Marlin 1894M .22 Magnum with a 1.5-5 Leupold scope. I like the extra range the .22 Magnum gives.
Last one with a .22 Magnum (Savage 24DL .22M / 20 with a 1.5-5 Leupold) was taken at 80 yards with a Winchester 40 grain JHP. Caught the squirrel just behind the ribs and came out the chest. No damage to the eatables......

Re: Lever Squirrel guns, what have you got?
I have a 39A. I got a few that morning but should have gotten more. I need to refinish the wood on that gun because the MarShield has about all peeled off. It has a Foolproof on it and is a deadly shooter.

I suppose this could be a squirrel gun although we really don't have any squirrels here big enough to bother shooting in Northwest Montana.
The middle gun is my old Uberti 1866 carbine in 22 long rifle. I've had this so long I don't really remember when I bought it but it was around 1982 I think.
It shows a lot of wear from being carried around on my horses for the last 28 years.

We have rabbits and more rabbits here in Australia - I subscribe to the high velocity calibre removal and fertilising method too - a .250-3000 Savage at max velocity. You can cut long grass at the same time using a 300win mag - but that rifle is not a lever.cpt Dan Blodgett wrote:Back when I lived in Texas the squirrels were so big I had to use my 1895 browning 06

Re: Lever Squirrel guns, what have you got?
My "squirrel rifles" --- The Henry is the handiest and one of the most fun rifles i own, i may soon add the short barrelled big ring version to the stable.
It is the only lever .22 i own, so i thought i would throw in pics of my other "squirrel ready" rifles (that is, if a squirrel is located within 75 yards of a sturdy bench -- these suckers are heavy) 10/22 target model will shoot golf balls at 100 yards, while the Remington 513T is more accurate than i am with most cartridges. These were military off hand trainers from the 40's through the 60's, but thankfully mine does not have any military desecrations on the wood or metal and is in really good shape.
Alas --- the Henry is the only one that has actually accounted for any squirrels

Not by a long shot - Here I am in 1934 at about 8 years old with my "trophies" I took with the rifle I got for my 6th birthday in 1932 - I probably shot more rabbits and prairie dogs before I was 12 than most people see in a lifetime.I take it your a PETA member?

Well lets see I have a Marlin 1892 in 32 caliber and a Marlin 92 in 32 caliber these shoot either 32 Long Colt or 32 rimfire depending on the firing pin I have in them . One was made in 1900 and the other about 1916 .
Also have a Marlin 1897 that was made about 1905 . But it has a 39A barrel attahced and someone saw fit to mount a Weaver B6 scope on it !
Have a couple recent manufacture Marlin's , an 1897T and 1897CB .
Have a Marlin 1894CL in 218 Bee , another in 25-20 and two more in 32-20 ! Also a recent manufacture 1894CCL in 32-20 . Then I have a 1902 vintage 1894 in 25-20 and a 1906 vintage 1894 in 32-20 ! I shoot home cast bullets in all of these !
So I have no less then 12 rifles setup for squirrels . Oh yeah I had my 1894CB in 357 set up with cast bullets for squirrel as well for awhile !
This is all great but lately I have had the inclanation to get a nice old Flintlock Longrifle in 32 to 40 caliber to pop some squirrels with !
And if Viriginia decides to let us have a late primitive season this coming year I'm gonna have me a nice contemporary Virginia style Longrifle in 54 caliber to shoot roundballs and wack a "few" deer

I don't have much squirrel shooting around here, but when I do I use this one. A Model 39 HS prefix from 1938.

Re: Lever Squirrel guns, what have you got?
Knowing 6pt for a while, FOR SURE he takes those collector guns out to hunt with them! That would be pretty cool, that slow .32 Long bullet taking a squirrel, probably dead right there with very little meat damage. I looked long and hard at the one Cowboykel had on gunbroker a while back.
Marlinman93, NICE Marlin 39, like the way you have it set up with the tang and the standard rear sight. Already with the HS bolt too.
I'd have to say that I'm with RJohns, I got a Marlin 1897 a while back and there is just something so relaxing about that old rifle shooting .22LR standard velocity. Can actually hear the hammer hit the firing pin over the noise of the round going off! Haven't seen a squirrel yet, but this spring it'll get some use for sure on ground hogs too. Head shots only for those boys, that 1897 is truely capable of it if I am!
Great to see all the Marlin 39A's above!
Geoff
