Got in some Shootin' and Cabin time

Post by 2ndovc »

Made a quick, and early, trip up to my cabin in Allegheny Mtns. in PA.
Image
Was a spur of the moment and poorly planned trip but got in a good day shooting.
First forgot to have the propane tanks filled  Had about four hours
of heat before it pooped out on a 15 degree night. Was up all night keeping the fire going.
My camping buddy was not pleased!
Image
Even sporting her winter attire I don't think she stopped shivering the entire time.
All we had for heat was firewood and cooked on the grill. Cold but we survived.

It warmed up enough Sat. to get in some shooting though.
Started out with my .577 Enfield. This thing is a blast!
Image
I spotted these Johnny Rebs commin' down the hillside.
Image
Four shots of 75 grs. FFG and .570 Patched RB
in just under three minutes pretty much "done 'em in" :D

Then got out the '92s.
My 32-20 SRC that turned 100 yrs. old this year and my NKJ .357 Rossi.
Been playing with loads for the .357 and was pleased with
my experimental batches. Will get them on the bench to see what they're
really doing.
The .32-20 likes 5 gr. Bullseye and 118 Gr LFP.
Image
Next up was the CZ-452 .22 Mag. This thing is so accurate it's
Frightening and a blast to shoot. Fortunately it preferrs the cheaper
Winchester Dynapoint ammo.
Image

Last up was My SOCOM16. This thing is a shooting machine.
With what .308s cost these days I have to be careful with this one.
Just too much fun!
Image
Didn't save any targets. Those IDPA cardboard targets went right in the fire!

Nice to get out of town.

i know but I think it would make a great saddle carbine!
I'll have to get some photos of my Ohio marked Harper's Ferry Musket.
That one's been hanging on a wall for as long as anyone in my famiy can remember.

Sounds like a great time with getting out of town, the fresh air, the woods, and shooting. Thanks for sharing and scratch your girl behind her ears for us.

Thanks Mike,
It was built in 1924 and my Dad bought it in '67, year I was born. Probably my favorite place in the world!

Here's a better picture of the rifle rack.
Image
Also included is my Marlin LTD III that I only brought
one box of ammo for
and the Cabin Gun.
It's a 1917 Enfield No. 1 converted to a single shot .410
We use it mainly as a red squirrel gun. Those are destructive little
buggers.

Blustery and rainy for the last two days. I did get to the range yesterday before the deluge hit.

THAT is my idea of a most relaxing time spent. It really don't get any better. No boss, no "other half", your best buddy is there, solitude--no nosy or boring people to irk you, your Jeep :D , and last but not least, your "iron buddies" and their "food" :D -----------Sixgun

Funny thing about that Jeep. I traded MY beat up old F150 on it and the Boss Lady decides that it's going to be HER new wheels( because it's cute) and I get the Durango.
The Dodge is ok but it ain't a Jeep!
Oh Well what can ya do? I get to play with it once and a while. Took me two hours to get the mud
off of it :D

Jason,
That Jeep needs some "work". A nice fo-doe (ebonics--four door :D ) like that needs 4" of suspension lift, 33"-35" tires, heavy duty front and rear bumbers, tire carrier, .410 gears, Atlas transfer case, Dana 44's, axle lockers.....................................

Geoff, lets show Jason how they are supposed to look like :D

I know

When the Durango is paid off next September I get the Jeep and Blondie gets the new
wheels. What ever that might be( she's been hinting Benz :o ). We'll see.

Anyway. As soon as that sucker's mine it's really gonna get a work over!

I wanted to turn the Durango into a Safari Truck but no go. My mechanic tells me
it would cost way more that it's worth. Nice truck and rides like a Caddy but it's
no off roader!

My first set of wheels was a '79 CJ7. I got into more trouble with that thing
than I like to admit!

Jason,
I'm off the Jeep kick now.---------Lets talk about that Socom. Hows it shoot? Group decent? I have been considering one but am mixed between the regular M1A and the Socom. I hear the shorties don't shoot that great.----------Sixgun

I had two M14s. An Armscorp National Match and this one. Honestly I could shoot the SOCOM darned near as well as the NM!
And that muzzle break actually works. That NM weighed 15 pounds. Great rifle but I never shot it.

The sights were better on the NM but I really like the scout set up. It's heavy though compared to my AR but sure is fun!

Thank you. I get up there as much as I can. It's not as secluded as it used to be. Same problem as the rest of the world. Too many people with more money than sense.

Still I wouldn't part with it for the world.
