Today some pals and I went out to the Mojave Desert, NE of Edwards AFB. Took various firearms, one being my Marlin 375 with scope installed and sighted in. What a day, I couldn't miss. One of the homemade targets I took was a dozen Gatorade bottles filled with water and red food color (better to see the sploosh). You pretty much know the size of a Gatorade bottle.
So, I had Gatorade bottles at distances from 80 yards to 135 yards. I had a small table at the shooting line to rest upon, and everything worked out quite nicely. One shot, one hit !! Even my pals were amazed at my deadeye accuracy .... and no one was more surprised than I. Putting the crosshairs on the target put the bullet on the target.
There was an old 5 gallon propane tank (for use in a home bbq) at 140 yards. I hit it, shot after shot after shot. And my pals who shot the Marlin also hit the propane tank shot after shot.
Time to get the Marlin into the field and find a pig.
A pal brought two leverguns: a Winchester Model 88 in .308 caliber. The other was a beautiful Henry Golden Boy in .45 Colt. His eyes are good and he was quite accurate with iron sights. And he "of course" had twin Cimarron pistols in .45 Colt in a nice holster rig. He rides horses and has done some mounted Cowboy Action Shooting.
Cheers,
Carl

more precisely: 13.4 miles north of Kramer Junction to the turnoff, then due east for about 8 miles .... very close to Freemont Peak.
sorry, no pics ..... I have no camera.

Cool. I go through that area regularly when going from Alturas to San Diego. If going to LA, I take Route 14 instead of 395 at the 14/395 split. Lots of good shooting all over that area. "Old Savage" is over in Lancaster.
