Re: Winchester Trails End TANG SAFETY ,I'm a leverholic
The tang safety was introduced around 2004 when people finally convinced Winchester they didn't like the cross bolt safety that preceded it.silverbuzzard wrote:Well, I've turned into a "Leverholic"thanks to you guys

Browning / Winchester has used the rebounding hammer action with the tang safety on all their Winchester marked lever guns since then. This includes the Miroku ( Japanese ) made 1886, 1892, and 1895 rifles.

Nice. The tang safety really just preclues the use of a tang site ... yes? Or does someone offer a solution to that problem as well?

I have one in 25-35 Win - Love it. I like the safety - rather have it than not. Last thing I want is a tang sight. Anything else is preferable to me.

Re: Winchester Trails End TANG SAFETY ,I'm a leverholic
Thank's Joe!
Wood to metal fit is lousy though. One of these days I'm going to fix that, ( along with all the other projects I haven't gotten to).
I was told that there was one out there by Lyman for the tang sighted rifles but I have yet to find one.

My Winnie '86 in 45-90 has a tang safety and came with a factory tang sight. I don't recall off hand who made it. Take a look at buffalo arms web site. They should be able to help you.

Now, that is a silly thing to do. In a few months you will be regretting selling it.silverbuzzard wrote:....

I have a couple of the Winchesters with the tang safety and find it does not bother me at all.
I have heard of folks who remove the tang safety to mount a standard tang sight.
I prefer utility to appearance and like a receiver mounted peep better than a tang sight.
Tang sights are just too easy to bump out of alignment without noticeing.

Marbles makes a tang sight for Winchesters with the tang safety, I have two of them. They work fine.
Call Marbles if you want to verify, but here is the number from Brownell's:
579-000-085
Win. 94 (tang safety), 94 Legacy, 94 Trails End®

I agree. A tang sight is out of place on a hunting gun. I like tang safeties but I'm sure there must be someone out there that would put one on a good double or O/U.sOld Savage wrote:I have one in 25-35 Win - Love it. Re: Winchester Trails End TANG SAFETY ,I'm a leverholic
I guess it just depends. I have a 25-35 saddle ring carbine with a tang sight that has accounted for a few bushels of prairie dogs and two pronghorns. Tang sight seemed to work just fine. I cant see to shoot hardly at all with open sights anymore, but the tang sight has extended my shooting years by quite a bit.BAGTIC wrote:I agree. A tang sight is out of place on a hunting gun.
