Anyone Else shoot 375 jdj?

Post by dgr416 »

I have a contender which is kinda a lever gun .Any one else have one in 375 jdj.I think its a pain in the butt to reload but I wish I had it in a better gun than a contender. Before they went through the roof a gunsmith was going to convert a 444 bb for$ 300 to it.I wish I had done it.

I have one in rifle and pistol barrels for the G2. I'd love to have one in a lever.

Biggest issue with a 375/444 in a traditional lever is that jacketed bullets are mostly designed for use in the 375 Win and crimp groove would be in the wrong place. With OAL normally limited to 2.55" and a relatively short neck, any cast bullets over about 200 gr are going to have lube grooves below the neck line, which is far from ideal.

I'm looking to modify a 94 in 375 to a 375/444 or something like it. The first step will be altering the mechanism to accept longer OAL which would make such conversion feasible. I mainly plan to use cast bullets in 250-300 gr so a longer OAL would be ideal.

Do a search on this site for threads posted by Marc on modifying Win 94 levers to accept longer OAL. He has done it and is working on refining the conversion. There was a discussion on this site a couple of weeks ago. With OAL alteration in place, a conversion of a BB94 in 375 Win should only require opening up the chamber.

Had an early one from J D Jones. 12.5" SS bbl, w/magnaport. Wrecked 3 scopes and sold it. Kinda noisy, but the brass was easy to make. Use a GC 275 gr cast bullet and it hits pretty hard and is accurate.

Mike Sirois from OTT in Dover NH will rechamber a .375 Win barrel for 100 bucks. I had a 14" done by him. He uses an EDM process to burn a chamber. It makes for a very accurate barrel. Works well too. Shot and killed a bull moose with it.
