Pretty neat. I can't remember the last time I saw one of the Savage pumps. How does it shoot?

I was stationed in Michigan with USAF when these first came out. Local store advertised it for $99.99 but when I arrived, his inventory of 170's were sold out! So it goes.

My next-door neighbor, and hunting pard, sold his Savage 170 just last weekend to fund a .243 boltgun for coydogs/deer.

At least he didn't sell his OTHER .30-30, a Marlin Glenfield. ;) :P :P

I took delivery on another Savage .30-30 today. It's a very pretty 340 that I bought from a gent on the Marlinowners forum. A great deal at only $250, including a Sportview 1.5 - 4.5 scope.

Neat rifle. They also private labeled that rifle for CIL( ammunition manufacturer) up here in Canada. If I remember right a great little rifle.

Got a Savage 340 last summer at an auction. Very good shape, found a scope mount and period steel Weaver 4x for it. Need to get it assembled for a little classic shooting.

It ought to be a fun little gun; the only thing I hate about the Remington model is that retarded, finger eating, jam-o-matic magazine.

I ran into an older bolt action .30-30 at a shop in Texas once. Definitely made me do a double-take looking at the marking on the barrel. Not sure who made it.

Those pump guns are realy neat guns. I don't have a Savage pump gun but I do have two Remington 760 pump guns in .30-06.

The one you got appears to be in very good condition. Nice.

You talking about the pump gun or semi-automatic? Never had a problem with a pump gun. There were some problems with the semi-autos but they've fixed those problems.

Modoc Ed,

Both have the same magazine, and it's a total thing.

Actually, there are differences between the pump and semi-auto magazines very slight as they are.

Too bad you've had some bad experiences with yours.

I've shot the Rem pump in .35 Rem and had no issues... but it wasn't my gun.

I've never owned one, I just spent the winter clearing jams in them while RSOing at the local indoor range. I think they'd be pretty awesom if they cleared up their issues and chambered them in .30-30, 7.62X54R, or some other short .30.
