Deluxe Winchester stocks waiting for steel - PHOTOS
More recently my firearms passion has focused on finding Deluxe wood for a some of my personal Winchesters. Here are a few of the stocks I've acquired:
The most beautiful Deluxe Model 9422 stock set I personally have ever seen:
Model 9422 top; Model 94 bottom (both with matching forends)
Winchester Model 70 Deluxe stocks: The top stock was intended for the Winchester Model 70 Super Grade 30-06 Centennial, which Winchester never produced; the bottom Model 70 stock is my personal favorite. I'm going to put it on a Model 70 .243 Win. (which I don't own yet!)
Another Model 70 Deluxe stock:
My personal custom Winchester Model 70 Super Grade .338WM rifle with a 4X graded Deluxe stock:
All these beautiful Winchester stocks eventually will be carried in the field.

They are stunning, but I would not shoot my gun if it had wood like that.

That's some very nice Custom Shop wood, Victor !
Did you get them from Mike Ferraiolo (CT), or did you run them down separately ?

Very nice. Nothing like beautiful wood on a firearm.
Already asked, but I'll ask again. Where'd you get the stocks?

Beautiful wood. You sure have an eye for beautiful firearms and those things to make them even more so.

Re: Deluxe Winchester stocks waiting for steel - PHOTOS
very nice American black walnut, mostly feather crotch. One stock might european with the marble figure and a little fiddle back, but I am not certain. American black is not the strongest of woods, but certainly some of the most beautiful and striking. I have a very nice plank of that from Missouri that is 25 years off the stump air dryed. I am building an 03 sporter for my Son.
I do love high grade walnut. The european walnuts tend to be more dense, but American black has a character and color all of it's own. You have very good taste and some wonderful wood.

That second Model 70 stock looks almost identical to the factory wood on my M-70 .223.mod71alaska wrote:More recently my firearms passion has focused on finding Deluxe wood for a some of my personal Winchesters. Here are a few of the stocks I've acquired:

Re: Deluxe Winchester stocks waiting for steel - PHOTOS
Thanks for the very nice response to the Winchester deluxe stock photos I posted. Beautiful figured wood is a passion of mine, whether in rifle stocks or furniture. It's like art to me, and like art I wish I had more!
Several have asked how/where I have acquired these stocks. There's no particular person or source. I just keep my eyes and ears open for beautiful wood. When the gun fund allows I'm willing to pay a premium to buy a really exceptional piece of wood.

That response is very similiar to that of a fisherman with a tropy fish, when asked where he caught it. "Well, back up the lake apiece, but I disremember where". Yeah right!!

Re: Deluxe Winchester stocks waiting for steel - PHOTOS
Charles, that sounds like an accusation from an accomplished fisherman! OK, OK...I'll fess up. I bought all those stocks from a guy down the road a piece, after you turn left at the chicken coop and right at the big oak...or was it a big maple? Hmmm....Charles wrote:That response is very similiar to that of a fisherman with a trophy fish, when asked where he caught it. "Well, back up the lake apiece, but I disremember where". Yeah right!!
I'm just always on the lookout for beautiful wood.
Re: Deluxe Winchester stocks waiting for steel - PHOTOS
Was that the big oak with the Border Collie tied to it? You know, the one that spins in circles every time you drive by him.
