Finally got an actual .30-30...!

Post by AJMD429 »

Well, after 45 years of owning firearms, all of them spent in the Midwest, and 40 years since buying my first levergun, I finally broke down and got the 'quintessential' levergun (perhaps not according to Winchester fans, I'll admit...).

Anyway, here it is, along with a 4-shot group at (only) 25 yards. I shot the first three, and my son the fourth. The scope was loose in the mounts, so I figure either the seller put a scope he didn't like on it for 'sale' purposes, or he was frusturated the gun was inaccurate, and didn't realize the scope was just loose. I'll probably put peeps on it anyway...

P.S. . . . actually, should I redact this post - :?: There may be a law against living in the Midwest and not owning a .30-30, or is that only if it is west of the Mississippi?

Well, since there is really nothing you can use it for in IN except 'yotes, if you haven't lived anywhere else not having one is certainly understandable...

Hey Doc, I think you should have OI check the Constitution for you because down in the lower parts I believe it says that when the 30wcf is developed that it will be a requirement for all homes to own at least one leveraction rifle in 30wcf. Really I think maybe it does, maybe.

Well now, tighten the scope - shoot a group at 100 yds then put the peep on and do the same and show us the results.

I think that clause actually says .357 not 30wcf...

Congratulations. A fellow hasn't really lived until he finally owns a 30-30 levergun. I have one, made in 1954, that is one of my favorite leverguns.

Good idea. Coffee can money now going for a peep.

Actually, I've used the line "A fellow hasn't really lived until he finally owns a ______ levergun." to guide many decisions over the years...

(I shouldn't confess it on this forum, but I've even found that you can also substitute 'bolt-' or 'breakopen-' or 'semiauto-' for 'lever-' and get some really interesting results... 8))
