New Guy Checking In
Howdy all.
New guy checkin in. Got me a 24", 357 Rossi rifle a few months back to go with my Henry .22 and so I thought I'd join up. Took a bit of time to get accepted but I'm here now.
I used Steve's action job DVD to work my Rossi up to a smooth running fun gun. I also got his safety plug, ejector spring, and mag plug and the rest of the work was simple and straight forward. And, I installed a Marbles tang, folding rear, and thin bead front sights for long range shooting up to 300 yds!!!
Great DvD Steve and thanks for the help!!

Seriously - this is hands down the most down-to-earth, knowledgeable-yet-mostly-humble, and FUN bunch of gun-geezers on the internet.
The format of the forum, with only 'politics' separated, means it is easy to check for new posts, and you get to see some topics you'd not ever come across if you had to wade through menus and pages of sub-divided topics. That also assures most topics get alot of posts; you don't see the never-answered posts from Nov 2005 like you do on other forums, buried down in some sub-topic.

Welcome friend, this is the place to learn, make mistakes and be corrected politely. Enjoy the experience, come away with knowing more now than you did then. There is a huge wealth of knowledge awaiting you on this site. Go for it, it costs nothing.
Keep the coffe hot too friend, its winter here, last day went -4c to 24c which is about average. it dont last long, come September its all over and the heat comes again, by the end of Sept it can go to 38/40c. Cold beer is good then!!!
Then we get 7 months of hot summer. The temps then will drop suddenly come April/May.Its a strange country but I love it.

Re: New Guy Checking In
You sir have a beautiful country. Some good friends of ours live in Hamilton (North Island) and I had the pleasure of taking the whole family to visit your country for a month in Nov. 1993. (Yes, before the Lord of the Rings!) We rented a car and traveled from the the Bay of Islands in the Northlands to Bluff in the Southlands.the telegraphist wrote:Welcome friend, this is the place to learn, make mistakes and be corrected politely. We crisscrossed the country and visited everything we possibly could. Whangarei and Waitangi National Reserve including the Treaty House, Auckland and the Museum, Cambridge and St. Andrews church, Waitono cave and the glowworms, Otorchanga and the Kiwi house, Rotorua and Rainbow Springs.
Whakarewarewa's thermal reserve, Orakei Korako and the Silica Terrases where we walked to Aladdin's cave and the kids dipped their left hand while making a wish. Lake Taupo, Aratiatia rapids, Craters of the Moon, Napier where we tasted some great NZ wines, Wairarapa to Wellingston and your 'Bee Hive' Parliment building (I'm sure they are all as busy there as...) and then the ferry to the South Island.
After leaving the ferry, we strolled through Picton, Christchurch and the botanical gardens, Avon River, Wigram Aerodrome, Darfield then over Arthur's Pass, Paparoa National Park and the blow holes. Through Greymouth to the Franz Josef near Mt. Cook and the Southern Alps for some more glowworms.
Fox glacier, past the Bungi jumping bridge to Queenstown where we rode the TSS Earnslaw around Wakatipu Lake. Then Arrowtown, Arthur's Point and the Shotover Jets (what a rush!!). Finally up Bob's peak for the view followed by a drive through the hand hewn tunnel to Milford Sound. We took a boat ride down to the mouth (Thousands of waterfalls!).
Then it was through Invercargill to Bluff and the Paua Shell House owned by Fred and Myrtile, then up to Dunedin and lovely Larnach castle. Next, the albatross colony (I had no idea they were that large), and Pipikaretu Beach to see the Yellow-eyed Penguins in their roosts. Then to Mt. Cooke and the Hermitage hotel, Tasman Glacier, Christchurch and the International Antarctic Center, then flew to Hamilton again to visit again with our friends, Harley and Valerie for a few days until we flew home.
It was whirlwind tour of your country but we were enthralled with the friendliness and generosity of your countrymen. I think that New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places on earth and I enjoyed every minute there.
Now, about your 'Winter'. We live in a small valley SW of Denver, CO 6,100ft (1,860m) and -3c (27f) is a Spring Day here. We've seen it down to -30.5c (-23f) and -20c (-4f) is not uncommon.

Hi Costeve
Thanks your reply, think you might have confused Australia with New Zealand, its easily done, we have very similar flags, but we are just that bit bigger. No Offence taken, there is a very good friendly rivalry between our two countries. Especially over the rugby league and union contests. Try Australia on your next visit and enjoy. Did anyone in the US watch the State of origin league contest between Queensland and NSW? Thats the toughest game.
Best regards
