Winter reloading
well I just finished cleaning about 800 rds of 45-70 brass, 600 rds of 38-55 and 200 rds of 40-65. Like to use the winter as a time to stock up so I can shoot all summer. Already getting excited about warmer weather (its 73 here today) so I can work the kinks out of the hi-walls, 86s, and 1894s, and trapdoors. Love shooting them old guns and by the time I get around to the range maybe i'll have figured out how to post some pics. Looking forward to trying some of Kirk's pet loads as well as the tried and true. Probably will have to buy some more powder in Greensboro next month.

Longarm,
Obviously you are cramped for time making all those loads, and probably when you're shooting too. Let me help you.
I'll make your .40-65 rounds to save you some time, but you'll have to send me the rifle so I can do a chamber casting (for accuracy sake!). I know, I know, I'm a generous guy, but what can I say?

I'm about to begin casting bullets for the first time so i can enjoy that in
addition to reloading. I'm in NC also and have heard about the "big" gun
show in Greensboro for a long time. Is this the one that you speak of ? Can
you tell me the date and location for the show ?
Thanks

i do the loading at night, in the shop usually while enjoying a good john wayne movie, maybe Selleck. sometime Duval...hell you get the idea. I shoot at our local SASS range here on the NC/VA line and at the police range that I supervised before I retired (still have keys, and Chief's blessing)

The Greensboro show is Feb 9 and 10 at Greensboro Coliseum...Good show with lots of reloading components.....T&T is always there. Cherry's is there, Ed's gun shop and I hope our bullet supplier who usually delivers us 40-60 thousand rounds for a group of us that pre-order.

Homefront I don't even have the 40-65 now.....it just came back from John Taylor after having the barrel re-lined...i never even shot it, took it directly to gunsmith that is re-color casing it and rust bluing barrel and mag tube etc.....it is a 1896 vintage Win 86.....gonna have me a purdy deer rifle and long-range lever-gun side match gun.homefront wrote:Longarm,

longarm4146;
"I shoot at our local SASS range here on the NC/VA line."
As someone who visits that NC/VA line on the VA side where we own a little land, can you be a little more specific? I would love to visit a shoot if one is going on sometime when I am there.
I am talking about northwest of Mt. Airy, in Carrol County, in the area of Lambsburg, VA.
Grace and Peace,

I really hope you'll post some pics of that one, and early load results; it's a caliber that interests me greatly!
