What are you going to ask for...

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Fellow levergun enthusiasts... hard to believe it is almost the end of October, which means Christmas is right around the corner! So, what are you going to ask for for Christmas from your wife/girlfriend/significant other/kids/parents/strangers/etc.?

And, equally important, what do you plan on giving to any of the above?

I need ideas both ways, though with the unplanned medical bills, I may just tell the wife and kids to hold off on me this year.

Too early? Sorry - don't mean to make Christmas sound commercial or materialistic - as it is not in my household. Still, it is a joyous time of year for many reasons, including the joy of giving and receiving gifts to/from loved ones.

50-110 in a M 71 for me from me. With 10 kids and now grandkids I don't pass out too many guns for Christmas. Maybe if the Oregon Lottery comes through for me.

A couple months ago I bought a Ruger SP101 for mom.
She gets it for christmas, she shot it once and I've shot it once.
I have put elk stag grips on it and will change out the front sight
and give it an action job. I will also make a purse for her to carry
it and extra ammo in.

I will buy myself one also as it will be falling off the CA DOJ list
early December and no other 327s on the list. With mom and bro
both shooting 32's (he has a Single Six 32 H&R) I need a 32 as
I will do all the loading.

Mom and I spent most of 2008 shooting various guns until she
decided she liked the SP101 357 shooting 38s. at the end of the
year she had shoulder trouble and I decide to go with the 327.
She was having shoulder trouble when she shot it so we used the
32 S&Ws. I want her to at least use the 32 S&W Longs for practice
and we will decide if she can tolerate 32 H&R or 327 for personal
defense round.

We're more practical than mysterious in our house. Last year we decided to go for a big screen HDTV ($1000), and I bought it a week before Christmas to avoid the hassle of setting it up with company, etc on the big day. The kid got a few pricey items, but that was it.

This year I'm getting myself a custom rifle (some work jobbed out, some my own, currently in progress) so I'm spending $1500 or so on ME, so my "list" is gonna be new socks and so forth ;)

FWIW the rifle is a #5 rolling block action I found a while ago with a new Douglas barrel, gone through and fitted by Lone Star Rifles, lyman 17 and marbles peep sights, treebone carving lumber, homemade antique finish, 20" bbl, chambered in Cowboy .45 Special with a reamer made by Manson. It will be the first properly chambered C45S rifle I know of, and with Dave Higginbotham doing up the action and fitting, chambering and headspacing the BBL it ought to be a shooter.

The better half wants a few things, she's gonna submit a list, mostly boring domestic stuff and some $$$ for new clothes.

The 15 yr old just got invited to attend a pricey week-long honor student, national security workshop in DC in the spring (they sorta groom kids for diplomatic or spook service), and his HS band is competing in a national competition, so he knows his list is gonna be minimal as well.

Did I say I was bleeding cash and it's not even Halloween yet?)

if I'm lucky, I can afford to do some baking for Christmas.

I'll probably give a few cakes, some cookies, savories of various sorts, and maybe make some gingerbread.

All I want for Christmas is something no one can give me. So I guess I'll do without.

I never ask for anything anymore. I enjoy everything I get. Most of all I enjoy seeing my grandkids have a wonderful time. We play with trains, eat great food, see people we don't see the rest of the year, talk about friends and family who have gone home before us and generally have a great celebration of the very best gift ever.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I let the Wife and Daughter choose! They usually now lately go together to Tractor Supply/Gander Mountain  and get me stuff with everything and anything that can be had in Camo.(ever since a few years back my Daughter bought all this camo stuff for me!(I said how much I loved it.)which I did.Now they have this big outing and have fun finding all these things in it  Hobie has it dead right to what is really important.

For the wife-----New 17" Dell Laptop (she keeps saying how much she likes her friends 17") and of course she gets me! Now guys "on a serious note"for your wife/girlfriend etc.I have always found some extras--roses/fine chocolate/card/fragrance/silk pjs/nice ear rings on the table that morning not wrapped with her coffee and danish means so much to a women its unreal. Also by doing this I can be bad all year!   :mrgreen:Now that I have been doing it for years,if I stop, I am in trouble! Women are different creatures and they really love sentimental/romantic things. That is for sure.Trust me its worth that little bit of time and cost for what all they do! If it is not in the budget then at least some flowers/card/candy!

For the Daughter--------COLLEGE TUITION!!!! really with her not sure yet.

Amen!

But, while I wait, I like to get the best I can afford for my wife (she's the best thing that has happened to me other than Jesus and sobriety). I NEVER give her any appliance, or kitchen tool, or any thing that equates to housework, just girl stuff. I save up and try to give diamonds each Christmas. I don't expect anything for myself, just a happy partner...

BUT, if'n I was gonna ask, maybe a Marlin 1895 Cowboy in 45-70

I'm with Hobie on this one. Our celebration is usually that we get together with loved ones and give thanks for our good health and the time and material things we already have.

I DO usually order a slew of good winter-reading books off of Amazon for myself though... 8)

By the time Christmas rolls around, my son will have about 2 - 2 1/2 months left on his 2nd tour in Iraq. Seeing him home alive and well will be enough for me....

That'll be a great present for the whole family, Ray. I missed many a Christmas during my Army years. No more of that, though.

I'm hoping for the Winchester model 94 Wrangler 30-30 I found down the road...I might have to get it myself, then wrap it and put it under the tree! The wife and kids are already taken care of. Maybe some more bullets and primers, and another Pendleton shirt, love those things!

Well it's settled then, I'll pray for His and his and their return.

OK, as a follow-up to my post above...

If we'll be "passing the ammunition", then maybe I'll ask for 5,000 WLR primers!!!!!

Guess we should all pray for their return too!
