Son's first Deer

Post by Backwoods »

Guys...It's been a while since I've posted, lifes been busy with work, kids, projects, etc... but I wanted to share pics of my son's first deer. Zack is 11 years old and has been at my side in the woods since he was three. Well, Monday the 30th he got his first deer...a spike buck while hunting in PA. He was so excited and I couldn't have been more proud. That spike buck is quite a trophy for him. He made a perfect broadside shot at around 60 yards. The buck didn't go far.

Zack was using his Marlin .30-30 and Winchester 150 grain Power Max Ammo. By the way, it is the most accurate out of the box factory ammo that I have ever used, and it packs a punch! A blind man could have followed the blood trail...all 50 feet of it.

Anyway, enjoy the pics.

Fantastic! That really reminds me of my first deer AND rifle ('cept mine had no scope but a Williams FP-94/36). I guess I should clue you in on something... Nowadays I remember the deer and the rifle fondly but what I REALLY treasure is my memory of the time Dad and I spent together.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hey, that is awesome! I'll bet you're as proud as he is!

My 10 yo got his first deer this fall too - Nice big doe. Around here we have to use shotguns and my boy is pretty small for his age so that made it hard to find a gun for him. We finally found an old single shot 20 ga. that had been shortened up. I shortened it some more for him and he had himself a deer gun. (We call it Thumper, cuz that's what it does lol).

Jake is always the 'little guy' compared to all his friends, now he finally got to do something that none of his buddies had done yet.

Anyways, congrats again & enjoy - looks like some good eating
