Oh, the York, Pa. at the bottom pretty much says he's a wanna be in a photo studio.

Sword Bros were in business from 1889 to 1924 in York Pa. Not sure if the guy was a wanna be or not but he looks real enough. Kinda looks like jose conseco

I'm gonna say "real thing". I think the "York, PA" thing is just a print shop, and not necessarily where the photo was taken.

Sadly, "Political Correctness" is the most powerful religion in America, and it has ruined our society.

I'll throw in a half-baked guess. He's dressed pretty fancy and he's holding a nice new rope. You don't see many fellows getting their picture taken holding a rope. Must be some reason for that. Maybe he's holding that rope because he's pretty good with it. Maybe he's dressed fancy because he demonstrated his talent with the rope in a wild west show. So I'm going to take a wild guess that he did trick roping in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.

Very Rare, 1880's, Cabinet Card Photograph of Western Cowboy / Lasso Trick Artist from a Wild West Show of the late 19th century. A pencil inscription on the reverse appears to be period reads "Yellowstone Vic / Tecumseh, Neb." We are familiar with a "Yellowstone Vic" Smith - a consummate Buffalo Hunter, Indian fighter, guide, trick shot, and trapper who traveled across the Western frontier during the 1870s to 1890s. Smith's memoirs were recently discovered at Harvard University, and published under the title "The Champion Buffalo Hunter: The Frontier Memoirs of Yellowstone Vic Smith".

I thought the rope was little fat and soft for livestock. Perfect for twirling rope tricks, though.

He was born in 1850. If we knew when the photo was taken it would be easier to judge.
Anyway, its sparked my interest. I think I'll order the book.

I was going to say real, but you solved it before I saw it. The moccasins did it for me.

As Cotton Ryan (Robert Ryan) said to Vincent Bronson (Lee J Cobb) he's got the look, about Jarred Maddox (Burt Lancaster). And I reckon that guys got the look to, he looks like the Real Thing.

Lawman.
"You think it's a game, don't you? A contest between gentlemen. You ever kill a man, Crowe? You're a cowman. You carry a gun for protection... snakes. You learn to use it sometimes fairly well; sometimes you become really good - but you're still a cowman."
"Do you know what a lawman is, Crowe? Hes a killer of men. Thats what the job calls for. There are new ways to put it, but it reads the same. Thats the difference between us, and its all the difference I need."
A great movie.

A great movie.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

You got it in one son, and your right it is a great movie one of my favorites, but the ending always gets me and my wife, everytime we watch it we think it has just got to end different this time, but never does.
