Uberti and Taylors 1873 Revolver?
With the premise that Taylors guns are made by Uberti, why would the Taylors 1873 Outfitter revolver, Stainless model (4505) be over $100 less than the Uberti 1873 Cattleman revolver, stainless model (345029) It seems like they should be much the same price, within a few dollars of each other.

Why the difference???

I'd have to have one of each in hand, to tear down and compare.

There you go, Grahng. All you gotta do is buy both and have 'em sent to Buck, he of the NW wyoming Elliot family, and you will have your answers shortly. I'd say well within three years of testing. You be sure and figure on the ammunition bill for Buck also.

Hey Terry, you got some kind of hormonal thing going on today? How does a guy learn unless he asks?

grahng,
What Terry says is right. You can ask questions, read books, look at pictures till kingdom come, but until you "do it yourself" you really haven't experienced anything.
I started shooting rifles in my mid teens progressing to hand guns in my early 20s. I'd get something that looked interesting and keep it for a while, then sell it or trade it and get something different. After a while a pattern developed. I found I liked British No4Mk1 .303s, Winchester 1894 30-30s, single action revolvers .... and 1911s.
Every time I'd trade away from those to something else, I'd eventually get rid of the newest thing and come back to one of those groups.
Finally things began to settle in and I pretty much knew what I liked and wanted.
Most of the guns I've have now I've had for many many years. I'm not likely to sell or trade them.
Go buy one of the Ubertis, use it live with it and learn from that. Then if the urge hits, trade it off and try something else.
But let me caution you on something. There are guns I acquired then traded/sold for something else that I'd do about anything to have back. Guns I'll likely never see again and if I did they sure as heck won't be at any where near the price I paid way back then.

They are actually the same gun. The Uberti prices you are seeing are MSRP and because Uberti supplies the same gun to Taylors they will MSRP it higher than the Taylors so they aren't perceived to be undercutting their wholesale customers.grahng wrote:With the premise that Taylors guns are made by Uberti, why would the Taylors 1873 Outfitter revolver, Stainless model (4505) be over $100 less than the Uberti 1873 Cattleman revolver, stainless model (345029) It seems like they should be much the same price, within a few dollars of each other.

If you go to the Cimarron site you will see the same gun MSRP-ed a little less than the Uberti but a little more than the Taylors.
If you travel to Fredericksburg Texas and visit Texas Jacks you will see the same gun listed at about the same price as Cimarrons MSRP because Texas Jacks is Cimarrons retail outlet and they don't sell guns to compete with Cimarrons retailers.
Bottom line is if you do some shopping aint none of those MSRP prices the real world price anyway.

Steve,
Thanks for your straight out answer. I suppose if I had unlimited funds, I could go out and buy buy buy. I come here to this forum for help and it seems that you are one of the best to get answers from. I appreciate that. I love shooting and will no doubt learn much of this hobbie from many who are our mentors. You are a great mentor and source of knowledge.
Thanks again and have a great day,
Jerry
