OT - Finally found a set of grips...
... for the Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine! As you may recall, I've been on a "grip customization" streak the last couple years. Tried to order a set of "Exotic Grips by Esmeralda" for it around Christmas, but they didn't fit (but they did fit my Ruger Single Six, which has the same XR3-Red frame, go figure).
Well, as you know, we're all a bunch of enablers here. Old No.7 offered to sell me a set of Ajax sambar stag grips - real stag, not polymer - and I couldn't turn them down.
Well, here they are. I know a lot of you wonder about the funny carry handle on this one, but it fills a need.
What do you think?

Re: OT - Finally found a set of grips...
Very nice! But how can you see the sights with that handle on top like that?
Re: OT - Finally found a set of grips...
Those look nice. I'd soak them in strong (cold) coffee. That's got to be a great hunting rig.

I think they look great. Love the natural materials for grips, ivory, stag, nice woods.

Nice! Now you just need a 32-20 cylinder.

I really like them stag grips. The plain ivory ones look pretty good as well.

Beautiful, Jay! I've always loved stag grips. Someday I want to put stag grips on my 2 S&Ws. Hmmm...no no no no Victor, there's no money for that right now!

Love the grips; the handle not so much.

With enough use, those stag grps will age perfectly -- and naturally.

Great looking grips. I love the look and feel of Sambar Stag. Best thing to do now is to handle them constantly. The more you hold them the better and sooner they will get that "warm yellow" aged look. It took about 6 weeks of sitting with my FA 97 in my hand every evening but now they look about 100 years old.

Very nice!
I wish that I had discovered how much I like Sambar Stag before the prices exceeded the cost of my guns.

Nice looking grips.
If that apparatus on top is a fire extinguisher, it makes sense.

Hey, I resemble that remark!!!!"Well, as you know, we're all a bunch of enablers here. Old No.7............."
LOL!!! Too funny!"...even with the old guy adapter on top..."
Thanks for posting the pix Kid. They look really great on your piece, especially with the contrast versus the blued finish. I hope you get many years/decades out of those grips, and that you get to enjoy them the way my late father never did. (I'm glad they went to someone who really wanted them, I just couldn't bring myself to use 'em.................)
Tight groups!

You and me both! I was reading a Gunblast article that mentioned when Ruger first came out with the Blackhawks you could get sambar stag grips, with the Ruger medallion, for only $15 extra!!!

Considering the muzzle blast from the .30 Carbine, a fire extinguisher would make a lot more sense!!!FWiedner wrote:Nice looking grips.
