I was looking at that guys boots. They look nothing like what we have today. It looks like there is a seam up the front and a buckle or belt strap about 6" from the top. With no real defined toe like current designs have either.
Any body got any better pics of this kind of boot?

That poor hombre looks about as worn as his 1894 SRC.

Joe I think those boots are open on the sides above the buckle so that they can be folded down in order to shorten them.

I had a pair of Tony Lama boots about 20-years ago that were stitched right up the middle from the start of the toe right at the sole all the way up to the top of the boot and in the back from the top of the heel at the sole right up to the top of the boot. The toes were more rounded (not suitabble for killing cockroaches in a corner) than most pointy-toed cowboy boots and had a more normal toe than cowboy boots.

Those really are not boots. They are leather leggins worn over heavy shoes. There will be a series of staps and buckles on the outside. In the photo, you can only see the top left well. Far more common in Mexico en "aquel dias" than high top boots. Most of the photos of Pancho Villa show him wearing them.

The term "Botas" I had heard before, but I didn't know what it referred to. Now I do. I love educational threads.

Those "botas" things look like they might go better over light loafers, not heavy boots.

:?
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

bota/botas means boot/boots in Spanish. It can also be one of those leather boot looking thing we drink Jerez (Sherry) out of at the Corrido (bullfight). Women who are with the program, show up at the bullfight dressed in a red or black staw skimmer and matching bolero jacket. Either pants or skirt on the bottom half. The gentleman can wear anything he wants, but must have the bota filled. Ole!!!

Probably several other "bootie" looking things called botas as well.

Oh yes... I have never seen those floppy leg things anywhere but in the movies. I have never seen a real Southwestern Cowboy or Mexican Vaquero wear them. Maybe they wear such outlandish things up where Terry and JT live, but those guys are not cowboys but "buckaroos". Buckaroos for Pete"s sake!!!! They are Rexall Wrangler attire for sure and for certain. :-)

Most of the missing people in Deming can be found in Palomas drinking margaritas at the Tienda Rosa/ Pink Store. Those gawd awful things are made from bust head tequila and the Mexican version of Mountain Dew. They only cost $1.00 each and some folks have been sitting at the same table for over ten years running. After the fifth one, you don't have enough brain cells left to find your way home.
