OT Just made a deal on this
I just made a deal on this an 1814 US Common rifle 54 cal made from the Rifle Shoppe parts in the white.I plan on having the lock and furniture bone case coloured and the barrel browned. There is just something about this rifle that just speaks to me.Ive been drawn to it from the first time I saw it.
Re: OT Just made a deal on this
Looks great....very different. I would love a US made "Mississippi" 1841 patterned rifle, in the original 54 Cal. patch ball config.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Very nice! I hope to own a flintlock squirrel rifle before my hunting days are over.

Re: OT Just made a deal on this
Is it a rifle or a musket(smooth bore)? Pretty gun either way.
Re: OT Just made a deal on this
That's wonderful! I'd love a nice flinter someday.

It s a rifle and its marked Deringer on the lock, a contractor who made the originals. These were made to replace the 1803 Harpers Ferry Rifle and took their design from the French Chareville musket. Some of the military designs make real good hunting rifles, being built robust and having steel ramrods and sling swivels. The barrel length on this one is 33 inches so it will carry well in the woods.
Re: OT Just made a deal on this
How were the originals finished?

Re: OT Just made a deal on this
The originals I believe had a browned or blued barrel with blued furniture.I m casecolouring mine just to give it that extra something.I like having a gun that is not one
of your everyday repros.I plan on firing her side by side my Baker to see which is the most accurate.

Re: OT Just made a deal on this
Very NICE! I'd recommend Dixie Instant Antique Browning Solution to do the barrel and lock if it was mine. A Dixie gun works product, it works a LOT better than Birchwood Casey solution and does not require heat. I recently did a new barrel with it (six coats over 4 days) and it came out aces. Follow directions to the T and it's easy.
