NOT FS Ruger Blackhawk Buckeye 38-40, 10mm

I am no longer selling this. I must have paid too much for it & the ammo/reloading stuff. Sorry. I have a Ruger Blackhawk Buckeye 38-40, 10mm convertable taking space in my safe for sale (and I want something new & have a kid in college). It is in what I consider nice used condition, no major flaws. Under 300 rounds fired in 10mm, under 100 fired in 38-40. I don't know if the box is original. It is un-labeled. I bought the gun as unfired a few years ago. I want to sell ammo & reloading components with it as a package deal. For 38-40 ammo I have a full box of 50 180 SP Westerns, a full box of 50 180 SP Winchesters, a full box of 50 180 cast Ultramax, and 15 loose W-W SP's. In 10mm I have a full box of 50 155 TC's, 20 Federal 180 Hydrashocks, 30 Winchester 175 Silver tips, 20 Georgia Arms 155 Gold Dots, and 20 Georgia Arms 180 Gold Dots. For dies I have a Lee deluxe 4 die set in 40S&W-10mm and an unused Lee die set in 38-40. For bullets I have 2 boxes of 100 Remington 180 SP's for the 38-40 & an additional 40 pulled 180 SP's. For the 10mm I have 50 Hornady 180 XTP's & 100 Winchester 165 TC's. I have a new full box of 100 Starline brass in 10mm & 50+ once fired brass for 10mm & 38-40. I want $825 shipped to your dealer from mine. 38-40 ammo is $50+ a box now for jacketed. The old Remington bullets are not available anymore either. I'll let this run here for a bit, then try Gunbroker if no interest. Thanks, Chris

Can someone tell me why these were called Buckeyes? I see what I assume (could be trouble) is a buckeye engraved on the top strap, is that the reason why? I'm ignant and need knowledge, more knowledge.

Oregon73, I thought I'd try here in leverland. I figure there are some single action fans here to go with their levers. Also, I'm not a member on the Ruger forum either. Kimwcook, these guns were a special run for an Ohio distributor. There are 32-20/32 H&R mag convertibles too. Ruger did a run of 44-40/44 mag for another distributor. Chris

Great sixguns, mine is an excellent shooter. I'm afraid your price might be a little high. These guns still trade for $500-$550 NIB with shipping sleeve. Used, you're looking at $400-$450. Paid $500 for mine two years ago, brand new with the original box and shipping sleeve. I wouldn't figure more than $150 for the extras, "if" somebody wanted them.

Shipping & transfer fee on my end will probably run me $50 to $60. Ammo has to ship separate. I'm not one who thinks because I have owned something, it gains value. I have at least $900 in what you see.
I buy spur of the moment & perhaps pay too much. Chris

Those auctions are surprising, especially the used one. When people ask for pricing on these at RugerForum they're usually quoted $500-$550 for the .38-40 and $600-$650 for the .32-20. Either way good luck, judging by those auctions you just might get that much for it. They don't make `em anymore. Glad I already got mine!

I keep hoping one of these will show up locally at a certain large dealer, where I can put it on lay-awake, er, I mean layaway, or else make a trade.

Yes, that's a buckeye stamped into the top strap. These guns were originally made as special runs for Buckeye Sports, I think a big sporting goods chain in the Mid-West. I don't remember which were made first, the 40 caliber or the 32 caliber (32-20 and 32 Magnum cylinders), but due to poor sales of the first run, many ended up getting paired with the matching serial number from the second run and sold as a set; which is how the collectors want them today. I believe that these are the only 38-40 and 32-20 caliber guns Ruger has made, which really is a shame and hopefully Ruger will chamber the new Vaquero in these calibers (along with 44-40) someday. I just hope that they use 44, 38 & 32 WCF on the caliber roll marks or just 44-40, 38-40 and 32-20; the roll marks on the buckeye cylinders read 32-20 Winchester and 38-40 Winchester. Something about combining the Marlin inspired 32-20 and 38-40 designations with the Winchester name that doesn't sit quite right with me .

Ruger also did a run of .32H&R/.32-20 and .38-40/.40S&W convertibles on the original large frame Vaquero a few years back.

I'd also love to see Ruger chamber the New Vaquero in all the WCF's.
