Red Dot Scope needed for AR.

Post by grahng »

Need some suggestions for a nice red dot for my flattop top AR that has iron sights on it. I have about $200 to invest. Can I have some sugestions please. Will be shooting at the range mostly, 50-100 yds.
Thanks,
Jerry

I like the mueller optics multishot myself. Look on line and I just bought one from sportsman guide but you have to look for it on their site. Tom

The 'open-top' ones (vs. the tube) are also kind of nice. Less bulky, maybe same fragility, although more exposed. Many claim to be 'waterproof'.

TruGlo has some, and there are even more compact ones.

If it's for range use....any of them work fine.

If it's for serious work, there is only one brand. Aimpoint.

Mine was no good. I never could keep it from flickering on/off when shooting.

Try a Primary Arms M3 Aimpoint clone. It isn't and never will be an Aimpoint but it's a good optic and an exceptional value. They're $79 (with the high mount) + shipping. mine is well made and I'm very happy with it.

Osprey makes one with four different reticle settings, that switches from red to green, and will automatically turn off.

How well do the Truglo and Osprey hold up?
I know Truglo has a life time warrant. Not sure about Osprey. Actually never heard of Osprey but means abolutely nothing LOL

I have one of these on one of my AR's:

Bushnell Trophy $85 from midway (currently out of stock)

It has three different reticules to choose from - I like the 3moa dot in a circle.

Has worked very well so far!

Here it is on the one on the top:

Don't remember if those are the rings it came with - but with those rings, this scope allows you to use the iron sights without taking the scope off. It also made zeroing the scope very quick - just pop up the sights and put the dot at the point of aim of the irons (which were already sighted in).

I second the Bushnell Trophy. Red or green and 4 reticle option, all in one sight. I have moved mine from ARs to handguns with 100% reliability.

Have had very good luck with the one on below link.
Even have one on a S&W 629 .44Mag and if it can take that recoil and work very well, it will surely do your AR15
Kinda sometimes get what you pay for,
$138 for a very good Quality Red Dot is fair!

Jerry,
Read about the UltraDot "MatchDot" designed for shooting at Camp Perry.
Still within your budget!
