It is spendy, but I would bet no more so than buying one and having that done to it. I wish I had the dough.

The case coloring makes it worth less to me.
A blued one in excellent condition would cost you 600-1000 less.

The collector in me agrees with your assessment. The artiste in me that loves case colored receivers does not. From a practical standpoint, the standard blued finish would be more useful, but dang if that case isn't gorgeous!

The high grades are nice, but I like the case better.SJPrice wrote:For that price you can find a NIB Hi Grade and it is just as purty, maybe even purtier.
I was thinking the case looked like it could be Turnbull, too. I wonder what it would cost to buy a SRC and have him do the case on it?

The tang is a Marbles and it worked out just fine with the factory front. I have since removed it however as I did not like the way it felt to grip with it in place. I went instead with a Smith full buckhorn rear sight which works good for me as a peep type sight.

THANKS for the reply. I just don't want to drill the receiver, but I do shoot the rifle. It's the prettiest I own (except for my M1-D Garand), but its not much fun hiding in the safe.SJPrice wrote:The tang is a Marbles and it worked out just fine with the factory front. Did you have to go to a taller front sight when using the full buckhorn as a peep sight?SJPrice wrote:The tang is a Marbles and it worked out just fine with the factory front. I like the CCH over the blue. I agree it looks Turnbull.
I can recommend the gunshop though as it's where I picked up my Winchester '86. Good guys to work with. If you've ever been in the shop you'd see it's one of those that there is guns lying everywhere and they're busy any time of the day. Not one of those you see 20 longarms and 5 pistols with nary anything else.
