New deer and hog blind on Honey Creek lease

Post by crs »

Well, all we need now is some more rifle practice for Troupe and we will be ready for the special Texas youth deer season the last two days of October!
Here is our new hunting blind as seen from a food plot that Ricky plowed and seeded:
Image
Each long side has a view of a different food plot and a feeder (within 100 yards). The near end has a view into cover with game trails crossing, a likely place for artificial scrape drippers. My wife and daughter plan to help Troupe paint some tree limbs and such on the outside to match the pecan tree in the background.

Inside view through door showing grey pin stripe indoor - outdoor carpeting on all surfaces, camoflage curtains, and hunting stool for kids.

Some time in the field and good luck should net a shot at a deer and a hog or two.

Speaking of hogs, thought you might like see a Texas hog mount that Po Boys Wild Game Processing has in their office. I snapped these when picking up the elk meat from 86er's bull.

Just a reminder to watch your step when hunting where there are feral and wild hogs. :)

All we need is the surround sound system and coffee pot and we can camp out until the deer show up!

What type material did y'all use on the walls ?? I am in the process (actually my son) of re-sheeting one of ours....we use OSB painted....cheap but it is heavy.....thought about T111 but it is kinda pricey.....looks great...

Jumbeaux,
We went to Lowes and were able to get the carpet there. Half of it was a remnant and inexpensive and the other 6'x12' piece was new. We also bought the carpet glue at Lowes. The original green carpet had a loose weave and was very light weight, so my wife picked out the grey with a real tight nap.

Yes, the blind is all steel, except for the sliding windows and trim.
It was made by Monarch Hunting Products in Arlington, TX.

Cool! I like the carpet idea - that's the one thing about metal blinds that I absolutely hate - touch the side inadvertantly and "bang" it makes a loud noise.... the carpet fixes that. Good job!!!

OSOK - While installing the curtains, the sun came over the big pecan tree and the roof of the blind became really hot, making the blind marm and stuffy, so we will also carpet that.

Another bad thing about metal box blinds is that they tend to gather condensate on the inside and it drips onto the contents, including hunters. The I/O carpet on the ceiling should absorb that moisture and then allow it to evaporate as things warm up.

Fantastic looking blind. I have looked at alot of those. Just not sure about that ladder for an entrance. Wouldn't work very well in slippery weather. Tom.
