You know, I'm either getting old or something, but as much as I like seeing good looking gals posing with guns, those adds were a dud.
There weren't enough views of the rifle to call it an add so why bother?
More like gun porno.
Would have been a good calender, but as an add it stunk.

I must be getting old also.

I think they need a new photographer. The poses, clothes, and poor shots of the guns looks pretty cheesy.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

Yea... you guys are getting old....

A kind word and a gun? Heck... a pretty girl and a gun probably trumps that!

Gents,

I usually keep quiet about "cheesecake pictures", but I will speak up, now. It is not that I am getting old. It is that I have never understood the mixing of girls & cars, girls & guns, or girls & whatever is being sold. If someone wants to sell me a gun, then show me the gun & tell me about it. Likewise with cars, and with girls. ...oh, I like looking at pretty girls, and a number of those "Sherwin" girls fit my idea of pretty, but, like the above-mentioned combinations of "girls & whatever", the auction ads make me desire neither. I will throw the Dillon Blue Press into the same category. ...show me the gun...or, the girl...or, the reloading press...whichever one it is that you are clearly wanting me to buy. If your product is good enough, then I should buy it on its merrits, not because of the window dressing.

The only reason I like looking at those pictures of girls holding guns is that it gives me a much better perception of the size of the firearm.

Now that was funny, I don't care who you are...

Seriously, the firearms could have been presented such that you could see them AND the girls. If they have to follow this marketing ploy they could get a better photographer. I bet it is somebody "in house" probably the boss...
Sincerely,

Hobie

Now I won't go so far as to say it makes me desire neither ( ) but I'm right there with you. Maybe it's because I'm easily distracted, who knows? I just want to appreciate each for what it is without "clutter".

Look through a copy or two of the Shotgun News and you will see plenty of ads with 3/4 naked women holding guns of many types. I wrote a machine gun company and told them I thought that this type of advertising was demeaning to the shooter as it seemed to class him as a lecherous individual. Someone got back to me and they told me if I did not like their advertising, I should not look at it... Idiot. Dillion's Blue press ad with the girl in the stoopid looking green dress also does nothing for me. Funny they picked green. Blue would have made more sense, which tells you they weren't advertising the dress OR the press!!!

Well I for one of late, seem to be having a tougher time than I used to
seeing down those itty bitty open iron sights. But add in a nice set of
C’s or D’s with that rifle, I’m seeing just fine. :P

The two problems with those advertisements are:
  • a. they don't show enough detail of the guns, and
    b. the girls look like pretty girls hired to hold guns in suggestive poses.
...but I don't have any quarrel with the concept.

All they'd have to do to make it more appealing (and likelier to sell the guns), would be:
  • a. show details of the guns (without omitting details already shown of the girls, of course  ), and
    b. have girls who look interested in the guns, vs. just eye-flirting with the cameraman.
Having said that, where's my Dillon catalogue...?
