Got let go at work today. I knew it was coming, but didn't know it would be this soon. Got to find something else now, wish me luck.

Good luck. Hopefully potential employers are out there looking for integrity, rather than just a specific skill set or age or gender or other 'quota' thing.

Reminds us all we should always strive to live 'below our means', so we have a bit of a 'cushion' when times get rough.

Sorry to hear this. I am a carpenter and the last 2 1/2 years have really been hard. After being laid off 5 times over this time period, with some long stretches in between jobs, I finally decided to just work for myself. I am taking small remodels, decks and anything in between. No matter how small the job is I am doing it. I was surprised at the number of small jobs out there that companies just won't do. My wife has been the main bread winner during this time, thankfully she has been working steady.

I hope you find something, being out of work really stinks. I am praying for you.

Best of luck to you and all our leverbrothers out there being hit by these challenging times. The idea of taking small handyman jobs like Keven (Mac in Mo) said isn't a bad idea if you've got the skill set. Till then keep the faith, everything will work out.

Prayers up. You're joining a lot of good people who have been caught up in the current economic woes through no fault of their own. With almost 10% national unemployment as the average, and another 15-20% under-employed, there are simply millions of great people that are in really tough straights right now. Not to get political, but the fact that our current worthless Congress and administration hasn't rushed to extend the tax cuts borders between insanity, cruelty, and brainlessness. 70% of the US economy is based on consumerism, and unemployed and under-employed people don't make good consumers. Take more of their take-home pay away from them in taxes, and it reduces consumerism even more, putting more people out of work. This alone should inspire everyone next week at the voting booths.

I'm hoping for a big win next Tuesday and for things to turn around on the job front when a little sanity is restored. Hopefully your next job will be even better for you!!!

good luck finding a new job....prayers sent
in this job market you will need to be a jack of all trades....

I am in the architecture and construction industry...
and it is vertually dead....absolutely nothing is being built....
Most of my construction friends have had no work for a year
or two....and we are barely hanging on....
and its not going to get any better for 5 years or more...so they say
because there are so many empty buildings out there.....

no one is willing to risk their capital with this idiot in office...

I've been in the transport industry since I've been working. All of my experience is within that industry, but I've got management and sales experience, as well as account management experience during that time also. I also paint houses, and do that on the side every so often for extra money. Might have to try and do more of that till something else comes along.

Prayers are sent up for you and yours. I was in the marine transportation biz for 25 years. Thought I would get back into it after a few years, but have found that at 50, it is hard to land anywhere! I have tried several different things since I left. Managing a Brake Shop currently. 1 of 40 state wide. Not in my background, but I am a 'car guy' and have managed people and done sales for many years, so keep your options wide open. I am doing pretty well... long hours and walking on concrete all day every day, but it beats unemployment.

Just on a side note our owners have figured out how tough things are and have taken a more and more 'if you don't like it, then quit' attitude. This year they blocked out Thanksgiving week and the last 2 weeks of December-January 4th as no days off. No personal days, no vacation days, no sick days allowed. I guaran-GD-tee you THEY will be taking time off, but no employee is allowed.

Sometimes you just have to bite your lip till it's bleeding, you know?

If things get too bad shooter I am serious move up here!
90% sure I can get you a job working for Dupont in Towanda---or-----
The Natural Gas (Marcellus Shale)deal has become unreal! A small example I know for a fact---
They are hiring High School drop-outs because they cant get enough people.(not saying their bad or anything?)
$15@hr to start just washing down the water tankers with wages going on up!
Below is a place that has a lot of potential!
I helped a girl I knew years back turning a place like this into a very cool home.
Might need a (well/septic)but for $70 (yes, seventy?)a month mortgage w /nothing down???

http://www.coldwellpreferred.com/listings.php
Page 5 (next to last one)

Sturdy structure/good roof/Full concrete basement w/walkout etc.
Would be amazed just what some white paint and removing that wheelcharir ramp would do!
Her place we pergo'd the whole floor(maple)installed a huge long poled ceiling fan and built a Russian fireplace. :o
When people walk into it their jaws drop??? :shock:Even had a buddy mold two huge concrete painted lions standing guard on the front stoop.
Heck, for a while just get a japenese toilet and collect rain water from the eves?
Thats getting real in the real world! Ya do what ya gotta do!
Can live about as cheap as anywhere there is.
Also some of the best hunting there is .Heck check the map it and see.Surrounded by numerous State Game lands.(I Hunted bear on Cahill Mountain there at a very young age right by there in Overton,Pa and it reminded me of the place the guys hunted on the movie the Deer Hunter?(places there I think a deer/bear never seen a human?)
(its a cool place, country living located by Canton/Towanda/Troy/Mansfield etc.)
