Anyone used a Leupold 1X14 Prismatic scope on a lever?

Post by Canuck Bob »

This scope interests me as an optical peep sight. It would sit behind the balance point and traditional carry point for a lever. This is the main reason I won't scope a lever. I can't stand the scope tube blocking the natural carry point for wrapping ones hand around a lever receiver.

The reflex's are a little to "Stat Wars" for me.

Anyone use one ar even better seen one on a lever?

Bob,

I've never even heard of one. Gotta take a look see at it.

It is a very small 1X scope with an etched crosshair. It can be illuminated but it is not required. The eye relief runs 3-5 inches and it has potential as an optical peep sight of sorts.

Before you decide on a leupold prismatic, consider other tube carriers for red dots.

Leatherwood

Millet

Burris

Bushnell

Ultimate (IIRC)

I'd say they all have differences, and one particular feature might be a deal killer for that red dot. You need to pick the one that gives the least amount of personal dislike. Even before you drop big bucks on a red dot, I'd suggest you try an inexpensive one to see if the concept is acceptable to your style of shooting.

Another thing to consider is it might be BDC'd to 5.56 or 7.62 NATO. That and another thing I notice is a lot of them don't have Parallax compensatation so the dot appears to be on target and you miss!!! That or I'd love to put a ACOG on my .30-30, but the BDC makes it worthless.

Get yourself an Aimpoint H-1.

I used to sell optics for a living, primarily for the military/LE market.

The Prismatic's not too bad, but it has eye relief issues and battery life is microscopic despite running on the same battery as an Aimpoint (80,000 hours......several years). Prismatics run about five or six hours.

MrMurphy has it right, if you want a red dot sight, Aimpoint is the best there is!!! (Bring your banker!) However, for those of us that can't afford the $400 plus price tag, this one is a good performer. The guys at Warrior Talk Fopum seem to like it!

It's not an Aimpoint, but it seems to hold up well, I can't wait for mine to get here! :)

Thanks but I can't buy from the US, thanks to Clinton.

I've been considering this for a 444 Marlin grizzly gun build. I'll be sticking with a peep sight.

Especially for dangerous game....stick with a ghost ring.

Not sure if XS Sights are available up there but they are excellent irons for close fast work.

I know some optics sold in the US are available in Canada, just not as cheap. If you can get an H-1.....I have trusted my life to Aimpoints, one of the very few optics I would.
