Tang sight Browning 92 anyone?

Anyone using a tang sight on a Browning 92, 44mag?

Yep - This is a Lyman #2, that I obtained from a fellow levergunner (Thanks, Fred !), and installed on my B92.

Yep; I have a Marbles on my B92/44. I also changed out the barrel sight to a hinged folding Leaf. I have the Leaf sighted in for 50-75 Yards and the Tang sight for 150 yards.

This gives me the best of both. And quite a functional combination.

The Marbles Leaf is available at Buffalo Arms. This sight also has a Windage adjustment screw on the folding Leaf.

O.K., I ordered the new improved Marble tang sights with interchangeble posts. Anyone ever use them?

Both the standard and the improved Marbles sights are excellent and easy to use. I have more of them than I'd care to admit. I no longer own a Browning B-92, but I have Marbles sights on several Winchester/Miroku 1892's as well as other lever guns and single shot rifles. You won't be disappointed if you get one. If you choose the improved model I believe the normal upright for the B92 is the short one which should get you out to 250 yards. And this may be as far as you're likely to go.

COOL! That's what I ordered. I was worried for awhile I'd ordered the wrong one. I guess I'll need to take the rear sight off and put in a slot filler?

Big Bear, you might think about a Marbels folding rear in place of the standard rear sight. Some guys zero the folding rear for 55 or 60 yards and the tang for 125 to 150 yards and they say they are good to 200+.

Back in the day, most shooters left the rear barrel sight in place when mounting a tang sight. One reason was to preserve functionality in case of damage to the tang sight. This applies to sporting rifles in particular, but even target rifles could have the rear barrel sight for sporting use, often in conjunction with a Beach combination sporting/target front sight.

If the rear barrel sight is left in place, it is necessary to line up all three sights—and the bore—properly. If the tang sight has a windage adjustment, this is not difficult. If not, it may be necessary to shim one side of the tang sight base, though this remedy is best reserved for making the tang sight perfectly vertical if necessary. The front sight can be moved, though it should not be taken too far from the centre line of the bore.

By the turn of the last century, some serious shooters would use only tang sights on sporting rifles, and fillers for the rear barrel sight slot became more common. Another option is a folding rear barrel sight.
