OT: Seller&Bellot - 8mm Mauser - K98?

Post by chadbr »

Anyone have any experience with this brand? in 8mm?

I have my Grandfather's K98 he brought back from WWII - but I've run out of ammo (I only had about 30 rounds to begin with).

Most the 8mm I see around is S&B, but I have no idea about their quality.

Any opinions?

Thanks, Chad

S&B is quality ammo. If your K98 is in sound condition, S&B ammo should be fine for it.

It's quality ammunition and the loadings I've tried from them are mild, but not as mild as U.S. sourced 8mm Mauser ammo.

Do you have a line on some at a good price?

Best,

I've shot and it was fine but really don't care for the brass as far as reloading goes.It is nice to shoot something more then the low pressure American loadings, gives you an idea what the 8mm is capable of.

The S&B brass that I've reloaded for my 303 British has held up as well as the Winchester 303B brass that I also use.

The 196 gr soft point S&B is a fine round for the K98

S&B hunting cartridges are fine, and have good quality.

But I would not suggest anyone to use S&B cheap training ammo. Here in Sweden S&B has got a bad reputation at the shooting ranges after stuck bolts, blown cases and one or two gun blow-ups. Try to find Norma, Lapua or RWS loads for training. Norma also has the high class Oryx bullet for hunting, as Lapua has the Mega and RWS the Ideal Classic (former TIG).

Is this the cheap training ammo?

It's pretty darn sound... This thing feels like it could survive anything.

Thanks everyone - Chad

I've shot about 60 rounds of S&B 10 years ago in 8mm from my dad's WW1 Mauser 98 kar B (1918 production year).

We shot everywhere from 80-900 yards. Did fine. Still, S&B's FMJ quality is somewhat variable, so keep an eye on the ammo (inspect before you shoot).

I've shot a ton (500+) of it in .303, 9mm, .45, several thousand in 7.62X39 without issue. The 158gr .357's stuck in the cylinder of my S&W 581. Those are the extent of my experience with the brand.
