target photos
Here are the last 3 targets that I shot with my Winchester Model 1886 in 45-90. Rifle was manufactured in 1888. The load I used was 27.0gr of 5744 with 1/2 sheet of toilet paper filler topped with a Lyman 300gr gas check bullet cast at 30-1, actual weight of bullet, lube and gas check is really closer the 325 rather than the 300gr bullet its suppose to be. Targets were shot from a rest at 50yards. All targets are 5 rounds except bottom one which has 6. Black area of target is 5.5 inches. Upper right target was shot 1st, then upper left and the bottom one last. Hope to get out soon and do targets at 100 and 200 yards. As it was, I was beating the he** out of a 6 inch rock down on the 200 yard burm, just need to get it on paper.

Nice! I love range reports.
Does that load have a similar pressure curve to black powder?

Looks good to me! Great photos and thanks for sharing. With all this interest in range reports, Guess I'd better get on the stick and post some pics of my new targets and toys!

This is a light load at about 1350FPS. I've gone as high as 28.5. but didn't like the recoil. It didn't really hurt to shoot but it was enough that I thought it might be a little hard on 119 year old wood, I don't want any cracks or spilts at the wrist.Tycer wrote:Nice! I love range reports.
