THE 4-GUN BATTERY
If you could only have 1 of each of the types below (for greatest versatility according to your needs/wants), which would you choose?
For me:

RIM-FIRE RIFLE: Henry Frontier Octagon (22 Mag)
SHOTGUN: Remington 870 Wingmaster (12 Gauge)
HANDGUN: Ruger SP101 (357 Mag)

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
Center-fire rifle: my 1920's vintage model 94 take down rifle in 30-30
Rim-Fire rifle: either my 9422M in 22 mag or my Marlin TDS in 22LR(Just can't decided)
Shotgun: My custom built 12 bore side by side with rifled barrels both bores (serves as big game rifle also)
Handgun: Kimber Custom shop Stainless Pro Raptor II in 45acp with Kimber 22lr conversion kit in stainless.
alternate would be to drop the center-fire rifle and add my .54 caliber flintlock, its my preferred hunting rifle.
If the 9422 was a takedown in short barrel, I would drop the Marlin from consideration. (or if the marlin was in 22 mag I would drop the Winchester)
the shotgun would always be a side by side. I kept this one for the versatility of shooting the big game slugs which I think eventually will be the norm in the ever crowding east.
Handgun, I know I cheated a bit on this one but I can't see being without a ccw handgun or a .22lr handgun.

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
Pretty dang close and definetly workable. I keep bouncing back and forth between a 7mm-08 and a .260 but the stainless M7 is a great choice. Make my 870 a 12ga for the big birds and yotes and I'll stick with my .357 Security Six but a .44s is a fine choice.Old Savage wrote:Rem Model 7SS - 7-08

Savage 99 .308
Ruger 96/22
16x16/.357Max Drilling (ideally. Mine is still a 9.3x72R - easy enough to load for, but impossible to buy for)
SP101 .357
If I was still living back east, the Savage would be replaced by the .357 Rossi 92 - and might still be.
But since I don't have the 96/22 any more, I use the Rossi with catsneeze loads in its stead.

RIM-FIRE RIFLE: Ruger 96/22 with TruGlo holosight

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
At our location and my vocation/avocation, and at this time of my life, the following are those with which we could easily manage our current situational needs. That said, my handgun choice could just as well be a 6" .357 revolver. It's just that the 1911 .45 would perhaps offer us a different dimension to the battery during these unsettled times. If all semi-auto types were ever banned/restricted three of my choices would of necessity be different.
Winchester 94 - .30-30
Ruger 10/22 - .22 lr
Remington 1100 - 12 ga.
1911-A1 - .45acp
Winchester 94 - .30-30
Ruger 10/22 - .22 lr
Remington 1100 - 12 ga.
1911-A1 - .45acp

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
Since I have been forced into these types of situations twice in my life (due to finances, or the lack thereof) these threads are very real to me.
Center fire rifle: Winchester 94 Trapper in .45 Colt. It's Armalloyed and I love it.
No rimfire for me. Round ball loads in the trapper. Or if I must, I have a nice Remington 588 (?) bolt.
Remington 870 12 gauge.

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
Well, if I can have a little poetic license, I would suggest two 4-gun battery's: One traditional as if I were living way out in the boonies, and one modern for a more suburban life. As a sidenote, I have all of the below listed firearms, so I chose from current stock.
Traditional Modern

Sorry, I don't know what happened, I had the traditional on the left and the modern on the right, in columns. When I hit submit it came out mixed as you see it. Hope you can figure it out.

Pistol--4 5/8" Ruger Flattop
All the above taken from the safe and fondled appropriately before and after this posting....

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
CENTER-FIRE RIFLE: Tikka Whitetail Hunter 308 Winchester. I have smaller calibers, but I've carried this one varmint hunting because it's so accurate.
RIM-FIRE RIFLE: Anschutz 1710 22LR
SHOTGUN: Remington 11/87 12 gauge
HANDGUN: Ruger SP101 357 magnum. I'd prefer a bigger framed gun for all around use, but I may need the smaller gun for CCW.

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
Center Fire: Springfield SAR48 FAL 7.62 NATO (when you absolutely, positively need to get a lot of 147 gr 30-caliber projectiles on target out to 600 yards, and wit' a quickness; 90-some countries couldn't have made a mistake picking the FAL; runner up: M1 Garand)
Rimfire: Browning BLR 22 (edges out the Marlin 1894M 22 Magnum only due to greater availability of the 22LR cartridge vs. 22 Magnum)
Shotgun: Ithaca 37 Military and Police 8-shot 12 ga (the best 12 ga pump ever made, bar none; runner up: ain't none)
Handgun: Stainless Colt Series 80 Govt Model in 1911 in 45ACP (it's more accurate than three different Colt Gold Cups that I own / have owned and has been remarkably accurate; runner up is a RIA 1911 clone for the same reasons)

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
I wanna change my answer and dang it, I'm gonna!
While not giving up on any of my guns, I've come to the conclusion lately that a 12ga and a rimfire handgun are my 2 primaries. With the 12ga. I can do about anything that I "need" to do and a .22LR pistol will finish what the 12 started. Also, when hunting with a centerfire rifle I prefer to have a .22lr pistol in lieu of a centerfire.
So my list is now:
Rem M7 stainless in .260 or 7mm-08.
10/22, stainless
Winchester 1300 (lighter than an 870, just need to find a 22" Winchoke barrel for mine)
Ruger 22/45, stainless again
Now if I had to sell off everything but 4 that I own it may be a different story. The list would be this.
No centerfire rifle
10/22 stainless (just don't know which one i would keep)
TWO shotguns. My 870 slug gun and my Win 1300
.32H&R Single Six. I don't care what happens or if it's practical but it's the last handgun I own that will be sold.

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
Some questions never get old.
My MicMarlin in 30-30
A no-name 22lr that looks like it has a Sako action but can out shoot most any other 22 out there.
I have 3 shotguns but the 60 year-old Springfield 20ga sees the most use.
As for the pistol I'll break from tradition and go with my XD sub-compact in 9mm, with my trijicon sights and a steady diet of hand loads it has become an extension of my hand.

Centerfire rifle: Springfield 1903A3, as issued
Rimfire rifle: CZ452 FS
Shotgun: Remington 1100 12ga, 18-1/2" cyl & 26" VR w/interchangeable chokes
Handgun: S&W 686+ .357 Mag 6"
I've had the Remington 1100 for many years. It is my only shotgun and serves all my needs with two barrels.
I've added the others in the last couple of years.
I've had the good fortune to own several hundred forearms over the past 40 years of shooting and collecting and the above choices reflect my experiences with a wide variety of choices. All of my choices were made based on quality, versatility, reliability, and accuracy. I would add that handloading allows the 30-06 and .357 to serve several functions that factory ammo would preclude.

Wow ---
Centerfire rifle -- HK 91 (or a FAL variant ) and a crate of 7.62 Nato ammo -- sorry leverguns --- if it were leverguns or nothin' though, i'd take my dad's Model 94 in .30 WCF
Rimfire rifle -- Spikes .22 LR upper on one of my AR lowers with a match trigger - a Henry levergun is the alternate due to the ability to shoot .22 Shorts also
Shotgun: Rem. 870 (an Winchester 1300 can just as easilly be substituted too)
Handgun: Smith 686 with a 6" barrel -- (honorable mention would go to any of my beloved Colts, but with the lack of gunsmiths anymore who are well-versed in a Python's inner-workings , i'd just go with a Smith-- but i wouldn't be happy )
Rimfire handgun -- not a listed category -- but i would go with a convertible Single Six first with honorable mention to the smith 617

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
For a centerfire rifle, I'd use a Springfield sporter, Mauser sporter, or Ruger M-77 in '06. I'm having my 35 Whelen Ruger made into a switch barrel, so it would be my first choice, 35 Whelen/30-06.
Rimfire rifle, Marlin 39, tho I'd as soon swap it for a Smith K-22 as far as practical use is concerned.
Shotgun, I've never had much use for a shotgun, I'd gladly trade a shotgun (or a whole pile of them) for a 94 carbine or an 86 carbine.
Handgun, Smith 29, 4", or Ruger 45 Colt Blackhawk

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
Centerfire; Pre 64 Win 94 .30-30 - I appreciate that shots past 125 or so strongly suggest a scoped/longer range capability, but the good ol' .30-30 can always be found on shelves and it's a proven, capable cartridge and classic, handy platform within "regular" distance needs. So, IF faced with a buy-new 4 gun-only battery, my choice might be an early USRAC/pre safety AE or Marlin 336 for the added "effective" reach, begudgingly!
Honorable mention for Zombies coming centerfire: the new Ruger Mini 30 "Tactical" looks promising.
Rimfire: my heart says my Win 69A bolt, ca 1959. Zombie brain says the 10-22.
Shotgun: Ithaca 37 12 (or my current 16) ga. The Remington's great, just like the good ol' Ithaca better.
Handgun: Pre lock S&W 65LS (Lady Smith) 3" .357. Best K IMO. IF faced with a buying-new 4 Gun-only battery, maybe "upgrade" to a Pre lock 686+ 3". I viscerally like the Ks better, and the L's are not quite as carryable, but that extra round and enhanced 125 gr capability would possibly make up for its demerits.
Honorable mention: to be fair, this needs to be changed to 5 Gun Battery allowing for a Centerfire and Rimfire Handgun split! In which case, add a .22/Convertible Single Six.

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
CFR- Bushmaster AR15A2
RFR- Marlin81TS with 3-9 Bushnell scope
Shotgun- Remington 870 Express 3.5" 12 GA
CFH-Glock 23 40S&W
If I could, Id swap the Shotgun for my Remington 700 Varmint Synthetic in 308. The reason for going with the AR over the 700 initially is that 223 is legal for deer here in FL. Ranges also tend to be relatively close. 100 yards is a long shot. If I couldnt swap the shotty for the 700 Id put a 4x scope on the AR.

Shotgun : Remington 870 Express 12 Guage 21" vent rib barrel w/ Remchoke so it is good for defense & hunting

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
I seen these threads before, and they are always fun, but darn it, I have a hard time choosing.
The shot is easy, If I can have only one, the I will take a Belgium made Browning Light Twelve, A5 in 12ga.
Centerfire rifle, I recond it's my old Browning BLR steel frame in .308 win.
Rimfire, a hard choice, but I guess my Winchester 94/22mag, even though it's a lot more expensive to shoot.
Pistol, man now this is tough. I guess it will be my Wilson Combat 5 inch 1911 with Bomar style adjustible sights, but I hate to give up having a good .22 rimfire like my Smith and Wesson model 17-2 with a 6 inch barrel, or my 4 inch barreled 44mag N-Frame, not mention a whole bunch of in-between guns.

Re: THE 4-GUN BATTERY
lastmohecken why don't you get a .22lr conversion for that .45, then you can have both in one.
