Found a barrel wrench

Post by salvo »

I was working on my LandCruiser and took it for a spin around the block this morning and noticed a garage sale, I normally don't do the garage deal thing, but figured I could be like those American Picker guy's :P

I noticed an old vintage GoldenRod Oiler (that cleaned up nice) and a barrel wrench, guy said his dad worked on guns, but most his tools where already sold. Gave him $3.00 for both! Might have to stop at garage sales more often.

Would have no idea what barrelwrench was, but oil cans are very useful. Dont go to garage sales very much, but every time i do always seem to find interesting stuff. Specially old tools.

My wife and I religously hit every yard sale in town every Friday and Saturday morning, might be 25-35 of them on a good weekend. Amazing what a guy can find.

Great find, that can also be used for pressing bearings.
I used to do Drywall and was always late on Friday, just told My Boss - Hey it's Yard Sale Friday !
People R afraid to put Gun stuff out so U have to ask.
jnyork- I thought U found a 25-35, had My Heart pounding.

Actually I think what you have is a barrel VISE. An actual wrench would have a long handle. You clamp the barrel in the tool you have and lock it in a vise and then use an action wrench to turn off the barrel. A good tool if you do barrel work. I have one like that that is fastened to a plate and bolts to the bench when I need it. A super buy for $1.50.

I stopped going to them, all I ever find is kids clothes and kids toys.

Well, no. :P Have bought several firearms and a truckload of reloading gear, etc over the years. Makes it all worthwhile.
Yes, you are right about folks not putting the gun stuff out, asking has paid off good dividends for me.

Thanks LB
KCSO, I agree "barrel Vise" is more fitting!
I guess the old guy sold all the guns and knifes before I got there too!

For some reason I looked at the title to this thread and was seeing barrel wench. I was going to look for the pictures,.....I've never seen a barrel wench before.

I think Old Savage would have the best barrel wench pictures.
