OT - Redtail Hawk Nest - AND Hunting Success

Walking in the woods and looking for mushrooms (which I can NEVER find... :evil: ), and saw this nest (Redtail Hawk):

Using that spotting scope to hunt mushrooms may be your problem. You're trying too hard. Relax and take leisurely walk thru the woods, keep you eyes on the ground, the mushrooms will pop up right in front of you. :D

Yeah, I just can't decide what to hunt them with...is a .22 LR adequate? What sights do you all use? Do you really have to use hollow-points for a clean harvest..? :lol:

Make sure you use enough gun, I hear they charge when they're wounded.

We have such a nest in a nearby woods and the parent hawks are hunting hard to feed the chicks. The population of small critters will take a hard hit for the next few weeks. Unfortunately, this includes our neighbors free range chickens, small pets, squirrels, as well as field mice and any slow flying birds.

A few of our free-range hens have been snarfed up as well. I just chalk it up as rent paid to Mother Nature for living on her place.
